on Siinday morning (Mother's Day)
when a baptismal service was con-
dueted., Tthree young children were
haptiSed, the ceremony being con-
ducted by the Pastor, Rev. H. E.
Roppel.

iMr and Mrs James Rennie who
spent .all their married life together
on the old home farm, Babylone line
have the past week moved their eff-
ects to. town in the dwei/rng purch-
ased by Mr. Rennie from Mr. Ed.
Denomme and occupied by Junior
Merner. We welcome Mr and. Mrs
Rennie to town and hope they will
feel at home here.
' . Improvements Made
The, local fire hall is being over-
hauled in the interior. It Is being
insulated with Ten Test and partit-
ions put up. .A special room is be-
ing Made for the storage of Hydro
supplies. The old pumphouse to the
south end of the hall has been insu-
lated. While these timprovemente
mean very little in the summer mon-
ths, yet when* Winter oomes it is a
nice thing to keep out old jack frost.

Amateur Contest
The First Amateur contest spome;r-
ed by the Zurich Womens' Institute
was held in the Community Centre,
Z1.11' on Friday evening, April Dth,
and proved to ;be a decided success.
A full evening's entertainment of
this type of program was enjoyed by
a large audience who gave splendid
applauee.
For the opening of the program
community singing was led by Mrs.
Milton McAdams; Mrs. Gus Roche,
president of the Society, spoke brief-
ly and introduced Mr. Alvin Welper,
as chairman for the evening, who
with a splendid humor gave the con-
testants as they appeared on the
piattiorM every encouragement pos-
sible to make them feel at home. This
being -greatly appreciated by all.

Of Blake were among the nurses who
graduated on Wednesday, when they
received their certificates, which was
held in the •Thames Hall, London,
Univ-ersity of Western Ontario. We
congratulate these young ladies for
their grand success they have ,accom.1
plished, to he able to help mankind,
wherever they may be.
• Minister Leaving
Besides ministering to the two
charge circuit of Kipper and Hills-
ereen United Churches, the Rev. Al-
bert Hinton finds 'time to take an ac-
tive interest in woodwork. Handicap-
ped by a leg injury which required
13 months treatment, Mr Hinton
turned to hoppy in his spare time
the past year. He has made many
useful house furniture. He will say
farewell to his two congregations at
the end of June when he celebrates
his ?0th birthday. He will leave to
take a pastoral charge at Birchton,

A short sing song was led by Mr.
Delbert Geiger; Mrs. Thomas Meyers
gave- an -explaination on how large
an organization the Womens' Instit-
ute really is: We are a world wide
chartered organization; our motto is
"For Home -and Country." In Ont-
ario, linhave over 45,000 ,members.
Pm proud to say I've had the honor
of sitting on the Provincial Board
for the ,past three years. In South
Huron we have 1:0 W. I. Branches,
with 482 members; we -are non de-
nominational; non politicat; every-
one is welcome to join or visit -aur
organization, at any time, and now
we have ..come to the end or a per-
fect' Day. On behalf- of the Zurich
Braila 1 would like to congratulate
the-;Wriners of the draw,' also 1 wish
to thank the Judges, Pianists, eon-
testanth, song- Leaders, alt who in
any way helped to make this a suc-
cess nd last, but not least, Mr.
Alyin Wolper, who so capably con-
ducted the -contest, so nicety rotrod-
uced those taking part;" truly, he put
us in mind la the great departed
Major Bowes, the originator of Am-
ateur Contests; and again Mrs. 'Mey-
ers said "Thank You." The program
closed with the National Anthem.
