Mr and Mrs !Nigel Laporte of Drys- dale spent last Sunday .,evening at th4 home of Mr and Mrs Fred Du- charme of the Blue Water south. In itself the incident was of a unique nature, :being the 22nd anniversary of Mr and Mrs Laporte's wedded life and to top it all, the bride of those past years is the .God -child of Mr. and Mrs. Ducharme. Needless to salt' the whole affair was pleasing to all concerned. The Holiday Monday being Thanksgiving Day, and for many the day was just ano- ther passing -day; others observed it as a state .holiday,' which gave them the chance for an ;outing, and at the same time pay visits and calls to their relatives and friends; 'while others preferred remaining in their homes. Not all realize the meaning of the day; it is a day set aside by the auth- ority to render Thanks to God f:r the many blessings received during the past year; we of us who. are living in :a land of plenty and per- haps of waste; fail in many aspects to return thanks for it all, and for the liberty; and freedom we enjoy in this land, and with the prosperity, within the reach of all. And for those who had the forethought to pause for a moment in thanks giv- ing. We are sure that the future year will not pass from them with- out receiving a just reward. It repeats the old smear on the Canada Temperance Act—that it permits drinking on the street or in a public place and does notprevent juvenile drinking. The answer is that people do net drink n the street or in public places. Post offices churches and restaurants are public places. There is no menace to the peace of the community from this direction at all. Moreover the Ligttor Control Act opens the way for lot more juvenile drinking titan tl:I Canada 'temperance Act.--- Advt, oat S ° institute On Monday -evening the Zurich Womens' Institute met in the town hall for the opening meeting of the fall term with a splendid attendance. Ducharrne: A golden jubilee comes once in a life time, and we take great pleasure in recognizing this happy event which will soon en- rich the experiences of Mrs. Du- charme. I'o look forward to fifty years of married life, is a long time. But no doubt it seems a short time to Mrs. Ducharme, to look back over the half century of life shared with her part- ner. She has been a .Ioyal and faithful member of 'our Zurich Womens' In- stitute for. many ;years, and always ready and willing to lend a helping hand, and so tonight we wish to pre - emit this gift in recognition of this a lumpy event in her life. e. -Signed ion behalf of the members Of the Zurich Womens' Institute, ..
