the startling news item copied by the

"more moonshine ie being produced

Monday evening,Labor Day, when
about I2A00 people jammed their way
into the big spaenous Arena and Com-
munity Centre. AU Baty the sun was
nice and bright, but cool, and it look-
ed like a big evening. As early as
5.30 .cars arrived in town and com-
menced placing their cars so they
could see the big parade which carne
on sharp at 6.30. This parade was
like last year, a masterpiece, and was
headed by the Bannockburn Kiltie
Band and the Dashwood Citizens
Band, both giving a good account of
themselves. There seemed to be an
endless amount of floats, 'comic veh-
icles, clowns, decorated cars and ev-

Someone said, it beats any city par- to Baiff. They intended to attend
ade I have ever seen. However, for the Car Dealers Convention on Sept.
this the main prize winners were.
Best decorated ,bicycIe, Carol Bloch;
and Paul Yungblut; best tricle, Cana
Fisher; best business float, Domin-
ion Hotel; :best decorated car, Will-
ert Copen; best comic float, Ray Ort-
wein of Preston; and best clown act,
Lloyd Miller and Don Oakes. The
celebration was sponsored by the
Zurich Lions Club, with President
Victor Dinnin in charge. Charles
Thiel was chairman of the general
committee 'with Dr. W. B. Coxon
looking after entertainment and
Heb Turkheim the beauty contest.
After the parade moat of the big
crowd journeyed into the big Arena,
where there was an abundance of
very choice entertainment in store
for one and all. The temperature
was just right for sitting clown and
enjoying the two and a half hour
program put on by the Simmons
;People of Windsor. Every number
rendered was a masterpiece in itself.
However when the time arrived to
chose the Miss Huron County for
1951 there were eight contestants,
and the average layman would not
have fared so well in picking out the
best three girls and putting them in
their order. However the three jud-
ges were well experiences, among
the three was Miss Margaret Brad-
ford the'. 1950-51 .Mise- Canada.and

a close second was Miss Elaine Tay-

Rosealie Denomme of Dashwood. The
other contestants were Elva Love and
Betty O'Brien, Zurich; Hazel Sander-
son of Bluevale; Nora Willis of Grod-
erich and Peggy Martelle, of Central-
ia. It was indeed a lovely sight.. The
three judges were Margaret Brad-
ford, who also did some very choice
singing, Mrs. Isabel Simpson and
Campbell Ritchie all of Windsor:
The parade was headed by Miss
Carol. Thiel, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Thiel, who was mounted on
her handsome bay horse. Mr. and
Mrs. Crocker of Exeter, also
were riding in the parade with their
well trained horses.
One of the highlights of the Par-
ade were the darjorette's Giroups,
Directors being Misses Joyce Witmer
and Katherine Kalbfleisch who with
their classes were charmingly dressed
in their white and red satin, trimmed
with gold braid and buttons, high
white hats. with a touch of red trim -
mills' along with their high white
boots, ,-winging their batons, march-
ing step by step in an attractive man-
ner, about r2;0 in number.
At about twelve, midnight, the big
draw was held wihch resulted as fell-
ows: let prize an 8 -ft. Frigidaire,
Earl E. Weido had the lucky ticket
for this; and Chesterfield suite Ron-

Zurich; 6th, Electric Waffle Iron
H. Brandon Bayfield; 7th, Electric
Iron, Kenneth Weido, Zurich.
The class of !program was of a
anuch different type than is usually
put on by Service Club Frolics, this
was purely an entertainment, with
the highest class of talent, and is a
credit to any Club andcommunity to
be so well entertained. As said be-
fore, the setting was ideal, plenty of
room for all, and nice and comfort-
able in the large arena. While the
actual net proceeds may not be so
great for the local Club, yet they
thing there will be a nice balance on
hand, worthwhile for holding the
event. It is the wish of the Club to
leave a good impression on the pub -
lie, so that when they have a fund -
iion be it big or small, that the com-
mnnttiy will stand behind them. So
lie behalf of the Citrb we say 'Mink
t Yon for your support.

The Big Week -end
Labor Day is always considered as
the big -week -end of the summer sea-
son, and this year with the nice and
bright weather, there was a lot of
traffic and visitors in and out. The
Province reports of 53 death fatal-
ities over the week -end. Much ,of
this due to too much speed in our
autos, a bit of carelessness when out
boating, etc. Then there of 'course
are the incidents which could not be
avoided. But regardless' of these we
feel the occasion was nicely spent
and to good advantage. Of all the
people in and out of Zurich over
the holiday, we do not know rof any
naishaas for which we are thankful
for.
