Smith' returned front their holiday trip the latter part of last week, and we are at it again as busy as ever getting out••the week- ly Herald. The outing was a motor trip to Deep River where eve vrsited our daughter. Deep River, a town,of about 1,200 population is different to other towns in that it is all govern- ment owned, both land and Buildings which includes all dwellings, all is so modernistic, the archetuctu e is real- ly wonderful and so far advanced that very few towns have the oppor- tunity to compete with it. However, being government owned, only gov- errienent employees are permitted to Iive in the homes. A new protestant chapel is being erected this summer. It has a colnant Centre, tennis courts, etc. The location is very ince on a bay of the Ottawa River, about 1.10 .miles up the river from, Ottawa, the capital of Canada. About 12 miles up the river is the big new Hydro power plant- at Rapider des Joachims which produces many thousands of h.p. and is the result of a large dam of the entire river. Here the setting is one of great nat- ural beauty; with the rugged, Lauren- tians rising from the opposite shore end forming a picture that lingers long in (one's memory, and one can rest. Another similar :plant is now in progress about (30 miles up the river at Matawa, which will soon • be in operation sending its volumes of current across the country, making it possible for thousands of homes and shops to enjoy equal convenienc- es by electricity. On our ways we left the Na. 11 Highway at Hunts- ville and cut across by way of the Government reserved Algo n q u i n Park, a large tract of land preserved by the government, a very • scenic drive through the dence forest with manly( hills and • curves. At places up 15,000 feet above sea level, then • • Is At Hospital The s aney friends of Mrs. Ed. Beaver are pleased to hear that she is progressing favourably, being a patient at Victoriaria Hospital, Lon- don. Came By Plane !Mr. Orland Johnston. from Mon- treal came by plane to London w'nere he was met by his ;I•elatjves to visit wi:th his, sisters and brothers. Orville [has not ;been in Zurich for some 14 years and notices many changes. Dr. and Mrs. Archie MacKinnon of Galt came toe visit their mother, Mrs. M, lIacKin.non, also to see his uncle. On Western Trip • 1. Mr and Mrs. R. F. Stade :of town accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Herb- ert Ii`raft of Detroit, are enjoying a motor trip to the Western States, as far as North Dakota where Mrs. Stade has a brother. They are also taking in the many interesting sights along the way. Their son, Mr and Mrs. H old Stade of town received word th t they had landed safely at their destination in N. Dakota. Attended Wedding Mr an 'Mrs Ivan Kalbfleisch, Mrs. E. VALUED CITIZEN PASSES The community, was -shocked to learn ,af the sudden illness and pass- ing of Mrs. Christian Hoist of Zurich over the week -end. Mrs. Hoist was in her usual cheerful mood and on Friday afternoon she and her husb- and were on their way to Exeter and while going through Hensall with- out any 'forewarning she slumped over in the car, and Mr. Heist catch- ing her, pulled to the side, atd asked a passing lady for assistance, which happened to be Mrs. J. Drysdale of Hensell a Reg. N., who gave her as- sistance and they journeyed on to Exeter, where the phya:cian advised them to go on to London Hospital. Where the patient was admitted in Victoria ;Hospital, and ;given the best that medical science could ado, but of no avail ak no muscular ,signs .of life was shown, howeverthe end carne early Tuesday mi^•rning., and she urs brought to the Westlake Funeral Herne, and the body removed to her residence in Zurich, from where the funeral will take place on Friday at 1:30 p.m. private, followed he a public service in the Crediton Evang- elical U. B. Church at 2:30, with in- termentin Crediton cemetery. Rev, F. M. Feist of Crediton will officiate, The family which consists of two daughters, besides the husband, are, Mrs. Hari Heas, (Beatrice) ,of Zur- ich, and Mrs. Gordon aitting (Gert -g ich, and -Mrs, Gordon Raittin(Gets- rude) of Goderich, and have the 0„,ropathy of a large circle of friends,' down again for a few miles it was D interesting for one who- loves nature The return trip was " up the Trans- Continental I-I.ighway to North Bay, and Lake Nippissing, and .returning on the same No. ,1.1 highway back as far as Barry. It is fourteen years since we came this latter route and we surely noticed many changes, im- proved highways, and places •where there was formerly the open beaches along the lake front is now vertibaly a built in town in the summer, cot- tages, .cabins, and amusement places to no end, but there seems to he a big falling off of 'patronage this sum- mer, as tourists seem to ,be not going so far up this year. However, we are happy to be able to make this little trip, and glad.. to get back home to our regular M*ay -of life again. The Voice of Tenaperance The Democratic community is al- ways in danger from the propagand- ist and the gtoseip. The propagandist has an axe to grind and has no ecrup- les about misinforming the public. The gossip spreads the story. The listening public must learn to pro- tect itself by ,being skeptical about every sort of agitation—by refusing to be panicked by glaring head lines or purple stories and bringing every- thing to the test of actual personal experience. The people of Huron have been subjected to a lot of wet pro- paganda and wet gossip. Out of el- even ,years' experience in Huron I say that these wet fabrics are not .true. They are not :borne out by facts --Huron is not the blighted comm- unity that they picture, There is -no more fortunate community than Huron. That's what every, citizen of Huron will see if he uses his town eyes.--Advt, s . NORMA'S EAUTY SHOPPE CLOSED - VACATION AUGUST 6TH TO 14TH. NORMA STEINBACH - Prop.
