Now it is out. We . have often

Thursday, is Victoria. Day, and
still obsirve.d as a national holiday. ,
Our ydnnger generation probable
think dteas just another holiday, and
that's all. But to some of us who.
lived runder the reign of this old I
beloved.!and sainted Queen of Eng- I

Lions Club New
A fairly good attendance was pres-
ent at the regular supper meeting on
Monday night, although there were
some absentees with this and that.
In the ;absence of president Lion Jake
Haberer, Vice-pres., Vic. Dinnin took
the chair. In. the reading of the min-
utes of the lost meetieg, Lion George
Deichert announced of the nominat-
ion slate of officers, an.d that 'pictur-
es in the interest of land conservate
ion were shown, and that former
Lion member Don Charlton, of Exe-
ter was present. The speaker for
the evening was then introduced by
Lion Alvin Walper, he being Lion
Gordon Bennett of the Clinton Club
and who is Agricultural Represent-
ative of Huron County. Gordon since
last visit to the Zurich Club, has be-
come one of that big family of Lion -
ism and enjoys it very much, also of
being in Huron County. The subject
of his address was "Rural and Urban
Relations'. In many years gone by
people were more independent of
each other, that is farmers and town
people, farmers made their own su..
gar, aun their own. clothing, ibaken
their own bread, etc., but today we
need one another for almost every
thing in life. In those earlier years
a farmer would. plow his land with
about $50. worth of equipment be-
sides his horses, now it takes about
$3,000 of equipment, all manufact-
ured in, unban centres. Town people
had their own cow, chickene, a pig
or two, and lived quite independent of
the farmer, but now we need each
other so much, that we grow closer
together year by year: The speaker
sees of an even greater revolution
to come about to the farmer by the
more thorough study of land fertil-
ity, what the various soils need to
produce their very best. We must
feed back into our land what we take
out of it, he said.
As this, was annual election of
officer night the ballots were then
distributed with the .following remelt:
By viettie of promotion and Tonkin-
atioxi committee - Preeident, Victor
lst Vice Pres. Russell A.
Grainger; 2nd Vice Edwin Gesell();
and the following were by 'ballot -
3rd Vice Leroy O'Brien; tail twister,
Heab Turkheim; Lion Turner, Reg.
lUsley; Directors for two years, Bob
McKinley and Alvin Weber. The
Directors for one year elected last
year, Edward. Datars and Orville Wit -
