Had Bus Trip

ils of the.Hay School Area took in a
trip to Niagara Falls and had a most

Cadets Strut For Inspection
On Thursday afternoon of last week
the annual Cadet inspection was held
in the Gymnaseum, at Exeter Dist.
High School. Captain J. A. Carson
inspecting officer from London, com-
plimented the Cadets and bugle band
on their excellent showing. Awards
were presented to Eleanor Brown as
the best girl cadet, Niel 'Wiidfong as
the best Grade 9 cadet and Bill Yung

efforts and good success.'
Couple Honoured
The 1Jhique Farm Forum met at
the home] of Mr and Mrs. C. Schade
last Friday) evening in honour of the
newly-weds, Mr. and Mrs. Ellwood
Truemner. The highlights or the
evening *as a Mock Wedding. The
goudy aid humorous costumes added
a great :deal to , the hilarious affair.
A livel;rtiting-song. and musical •con-
tests followed. Just before refresh-
ments were served Mr. C. Pepper
spoke words of presentation on be-
half of the Forum while Mr. K. Hor-
ner presented the gift—an electric
iron. The groom very fittingly voic-
ed words of appreciation to the
group. The enjoyalble evening clo-
sed with "For They Are Jolty* Good
Fellows" and "God Save the King".
Died at Elora
Miss Jane Lamont and Mrs. Lee
Hoffman attended funeral services at
Elora of the late Charles W. Makins
formerly of Goderich and Hamilton.
He had a brilliant stage 'career as a
singer and actor for many years be-
fore coming to live in 'Goderich. He
played the leading role in the "Merry
Widow" and many other plays of that
time in United States, Canada and
Europe. He was famous as Sergent
Malone in "Rose Marie" and gave a
command performance at Drury
Lane Theatre in Old London for
King George V and Queen Mary. He
is survived by his wife, the former
Gene Cannon of Goderich, a son and
daughter of Hollywood, California. a
sister Miss of.

of Medicine of .McGill University and
president of Canadian Cancer Soc..

Women's Institute
The iZunich Branch of the Wom-
en's Institute met in the town hall
for the May. .meeting on Monday ev-
ening with a good attendance. A
lovely poem .on the "Oyster" was
given by Mrs. Kenneth Breaky. Citi-
zenship and Education, by Mrs.
Menno Oesch which was indeed
very profitable. A male quartette,
consisting of Messrs. Stanley Ginger -
jell, Newell Geiger of Zurich anti
Sam Rannie and Mr. Harris of Hen-
sall, brought their message in song
with several numbers. Mr and Mrs
Ed. Stelck of Dashwood entertained
with violin and piano selections. One
number .being played with a string' on
the ibroom, and violin bow, accomp-
anied bye Mrs. Stelck on the piano. A
playlet "They Say" was rendered by
Mrs N, Geiger, Mrs. T. Meyers, Miss
Ethel Gabel, Mrs. Forrester and Mrs
Rowe, -and was tone of the hi;ghlihts
of the evening. Their costumes were
attractive along with their drama
which •created much laughter and
hone to have them again in the near
future. All numbers given received
grand applauses, showing the appre-
ciation of the audience. A vote of
thanks was expressed to all included
visitors and members and all that
took part. Refreshments were seneed
