Easter Season
The Easter season was'fittingly
o!bse•rved by all Christian worshipers.
Churches held special services, but
the regrettable part of it -was that
there were 33 fatalities throughout
Canada over the week -end mostly
traffic aecidents. But it will again
go down in history as another Easter
season.

WHE N you consider the men, women and
money needed to operate 3,700 branches—
you see what is involved in looking after
the greatly increased demands made by busy
Canadians upon their chartered banks.
In ten years ..: with bigger staffs and
higher wages, payrolls have jumped
from $40 million a year to $102 million
▪ . taxes, federal, provincial and
municipal, have risen from $9.55 million '
to $20.7 million a year
• .. interest paid to depositors has increased
from $22 million to $57.8 million a year.
And these are only three of many expense
items. Yes, today more than ever, it costs
money to run a bank.
