HAY COUNCIL.
Inaugural meeting of the Council
•ef the Township of Hay, Jan. . 9th,
195t
The ,Council of the Twp. of Hay
•held its inaugural meeting for the
'year 195,6 in the Township Hall, Zur-
&eh, on Monday Jan. 9th, Mr. V. L.
Becker, the newly elected Reeve was
.charge of the aneetig which open-
• 0d at 11:00 a.m. The three memb-
rs of the Zurieh Police Village
Trustee Board were present and took
the Oath of Office at the same time
as .the ,Council members. Following
this, the .Reeve gave a short talk
pointing out the many responsilbilit-
ks confronting the officials and call-
ing upon them to seriously consider
ell matters before them at any time,
asked for the support of the me-
mbers and then asked each. official to
may a few words as to their view-
points. Rev. O. Winter, pastor of St.
Peter's Lutheran. Church, Zuriehevas
present and in his remarks drew at-
tention to the talents each person was
endiowed with and that if each one
exercised this talents fully much .could
be accomplished. Phe Assessor and
Road .S.uperinten.dent were present
too. The minutes of the last meeting
in Dec. twere read and upon motion
the aneeting was adjourned for din-
eser until 1.30 pen.. The•entire
group was then guests of the Reeve
for dinner at the Dominion Hotel,
Zurich.

and we hereby agree to accept our

No. 2, 1956 confirming the appoint -
merit 'Of Mr. A. 51. Harper, chartered
accountant for Hay Twp.be read a,
third time and finally passed, - That
we give a grant of $10. toward the
Huron. Ca. !Sail and cop improve-
ment Assn. for 1955. - That the
minutes :of the Dec. 15, 1955 meet-
ing be adopted as read. - That the
following Twp. appointments be made
to bill the various positions in Hay

ing bylaw 1, 1956 be passed author-
izing the Reeve and 'Treas. of the
Twp. to borrow up to $60,000,00
from the Bank •of Montreal, Zurich
as needed for current expenditures, !

Clerk order sufficient copies of the
Municipal World for the officials of
the Tamp. for 1956.
That since no appeals were receiv-
ed on the added assessments to the
1956 Roll, 'Court of Revision be dos-
ed. - 'That the Reeve, V. L. Becker
and representatives from the Zurich
Village Board and Dashowood P. V.
be appointed to attend the meeting
of the Huron Co. Industrial Promot-
ion Board to me held in Clinton on
Wed. Jan. 11th.., - Thae Geo. Arm-
strong be appointed Assessor of Hay
Twp for '11956 at a salary of $600,
plus $a00 for car allowance, postage,
extra. That the motion of Wednes-
day Oct. 26th, 1955 approving the
building of an •addition to the S.
Huron Dist. High School at .a ;cost of
$85,000. be rsecinded. That the
1956 signing officials for the Twp ot
Hay be the Reeve V. L. Becker and
the Clerk - Treas. H. W. Brokenshire.
That we, the 'Council of the Corpor-
ation of Hay Tees approve the buil-
ding of an. additional to the .S. Huron
Dist. High !School at an approximate
cost of $137,0100. and approve the
borrowing of the necessary money
upon debentures to be issued by the
Town of Exeter for the. purpose of

Mx. Robert Williams of town left
on Wednesday to spend same weeks
in the Sunny South to visit in Peters-
burg and o th er vaces of interest.
We wish Bob a safe trip and an en-
joyable time.

Leaving for Florida
We are in receipt of a postal from.
Mt and Mrs Seth Amenns, Zurich
residents, who have spent the past
few weeks with friends in and ar-
ound Indianapolis, Indiana, written
on Sat. 21st, stating that they were
•leaving on Monday for Florida, and
that they also have snow in Indiana
and will be looking for their weekly
copy of the Herald when they get
settled at Inverness, Fla. We hope
!Mr and ;Mrs Amenns and their fri-
ends will have a andet enjoyable time
in the land of Sunshine,.
• Left For France
Mrs. P. H. Smith, (nee Joan Mer-
rier) and her three children left
last Thursday Jan. 19th from the
hone of her parents, Mr and Mrs.
3. Wes. Merrier, Zurich, where they
have been staying, the past few mon-
ths, for Halifax, N.S., where they
hoarded the ship Franconia with 200
dependents, sailing on the same boat.
They docked at Ta:havre, France
where her husband Sgt. Smith will
meet his family and journey to their
home in iMarville, France. Sgt. Smith
sailed. last Sept. to France to follow
luS duties. We wish them every suc-
cess in life and a safe return home

Kitchener, Jan. 22 - Requiem
High Mass for ;Mrs. Mary A. Leyes,
63, who died in St. Marys Hospital,,
was sung Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St.
Joseph's ;Church. Her husband Al-
phonse Leyes died in 1922. Surviv-
ing are three sons, Norbert, Rreston;
Jerome, Waterloo; Francis, Kitchen-
er; three daughters, .at Kitchener;
one brother ,Siman, Zurich; and three
sisters, Mrs. C. Witzel, Regina; Mrs
Adeline McIlhargrey, Chatham, and
Mrs. Benjamin McCann, Zurioh. '
