First Snow
The season's first snow across
Western Ontario Tuesday morning,
brought a preview .of winter only 24
hours after ,Sunday's warm shirtsle-
eve tempatures. A raw wind ac-
companied by same sunshine took a-
way the snow on Tuesday, while to-
day, Wednesday, we are enjoying a
real nice autumn day. In parts of
northern Ontario 'tlh.e mercury dipped
down to 1121 albcve• zero,whieh is plenty
cold for October. With the week -end
rains the ground has :become more
moist which will be welcome to the
farmers to do their fall (plowing. It
looks like a nice fall, but at this sea-
son of the !year no one can tell. just

New Bridge Opened
The $55,000 bridge spanning the
Ausalble River at Crediton East was
officially opened by Huron County
Warden Earl 'Campbell in a special
ceremony, Tuesday afternoon last.
The .new ,cement structure replaces
the narrow steel bridge (built rn 1917
which created .munch traffic hazzard on
the busy county road leading from
No. 4 Highway to' Grand Bena. War-
den 'Campbell , before cutting the
ritbbon, said the new bridge eliminat-
ed the menace to traffic, which the
'old one created. A goodly numter of
accidents occurred at the old narrow
bridge. Arthur Gibson, deputy! -reeve
of Howick 'Troup. and chairman of the
County Road •Committee, presided for
the ceremony which was witnessed
by some 200 school children, munic-
ipal officials and resident of the
community.

Died In Detroit
Private funeral services were held
from the Bonthron Funeral Horne,
Hensall, for the lel e Charles Abbott,
of Detroit, who died in that city. Rev
Knox of Exeter and St. Paul's Ang-
lican Church, I-Iensall, conducted the
service. Burial wa; in l-Iensall Union
Cemetery. Mr. Abbott was the husb-
and oaf the late Alio Petty, a native
of Hensall.
