Plenty of Moisture With the numerous rains the past •week and over the week -end there is plenty of moisture now, after the long dry season, in fact we did not get a real soaker all summer. Farm- ers are losing no time to get their fall plowing done when it dries off a bit, and it always " makes a better job when not too dry. The late growth of ,pasture is wonderful which brings up the good condition of cat- tle grazing, and also increases the flow -of milk for dairy cows. Leaves are about all of the trees, and it is looking like, old man winter about due to enter. in. George Bender, a native of the dis- trict; who died suddenly tat Hopedale, Iles., with a heart condition, in his 79th year. He was born in Zurich, June 2, 1877, son of the late Peter Bender and Magdaline Wing, of Zurich. He farmed successfully for many years. PLAN TO RETIRE Huron County ofliuials are looking for a matron and farm manager to supervise the County Home near Clinton following the resignation of Mrs. Martha Jacob and her son, Dick and his wife. The resignations were announced Tuesday last atter a special meeting of the county home committee of county council. The men oc- cupying the platform, and the gue_t speaker was Dr. Godsell 'who is a re- sident for most of the year at his home, Beach 0' Pines and he was accompanied by an old friend, a singer, from Detroit. The two team up in singing duets, and do a good job of it. Dr. Godsell who was a former minister in (Michigan, is a very fluent .,:•peaker and had a good mes- sage for the well filled church of people who had gathered. The pas- tor, Rev. She was born. at New 'Hamburg, Ont., and came to this .community at the time of her marriage 62 years ago, Her hus'zand 'predeceased her '12 years ago. Mrs. Schwartzentruber who was of a very kind and affectionate dis- r s•ition, very devoted to her family and helping neighbours will be great- ly missed in theneighborhood, she was also very devoted -too tier church. Being alwaysi when possible at her place in her pew. A large number of relatives and friends attended the funeral on Saturday afternoon.
