Letter From Far Eeast
Rev Father Kenneth Dietrich re-
ports (via Air 1\Iai1) a very interest-
ing and pleasant journey to the
Philippines. He visited Japan and
also stopped over at Formosa for
several days. Father Dietrich's mis-
sionary work for the first several
months will be mainly a study of the
language and customes of the peo-
ple of the Philippines. 'J'he Father
sends greetings and best wishes to
his friends in the Zuri.;h district.
Our Next Holiday
Monday next, August 1st will be
our next holiday, as it has been pro-
claimed as civic holiday and will be
observed as thus. A few interesting
things to mark the holiday will be
a balt.game on the local diamond in
the afternoon which will be interest-
ing, an adv. elsewhere in this issue
will explain it better, and then there
will be the annual Thiel Reunion in
the „community Centre. And of
course if this heat wave continues, it
will not be very encouraging to do
any ',here than we absolutely nave to.
But it will be observed as a holiday.

Control of Dogs
All dogs should ,be well sup-
ervised and controlled and especially
in this hot weather, when the usual
dog diseases break out A local cit-
izen while sitting on his veranda the
other day observed a number of
dogs molesting a flock of fine young
pheasants, killing some of them. It
seems .hardly fair for those who do
so much to have these lovely birds
brought, up to be molested by the
canine tribe that in many eases just
kill for the fun of it. People own-
ing dogs should keep :t close watch
on their whereabouts and train them
to stay on, their premises as much as
possible.
Baseball News
With only a few more games left
namely July 29 Auburn. at Zurich and
Aug. 2 Zurich at Exeter, the regular
c.hedule will be completed and then
he teams will go into the semifinals,
as Zurich seems to have a good grip•
on fourth place which. will entitle
hem, to be in the playoffs. Dearing the
past week they fared quite well. as
ast Wednesday evening they beat
the Exeter Mohawks by the score of
3-2 Attrill's .Horner for the Lumber -
kings, did the trick. They arso won
from Auburn 10-4 hi a game last
week. Then .here in Zurich on Mon-
day night they won from Clinton by
the score of 0-3. The battery for
the Lumber Kings were Heimrich and
Rawlings and they did a fine job of
it.
