THE ELECTION
Last Thurs:ray was Provinciai El-
ection day a.id it passed off very
quietly and orderliyl, as things should
be in this peace loving denrlocrati,c
country of ours. Party pushers were
busy all day getting the people out
to cast their iballots and it was every-
body's guess until reports started to
pour in and it was soon seen that a
Prog. Conservative victory was again
in the making, with just about the
same as .when the House dissolved
this spring. In the Huron riding the
former member Mr. Thomas Pryde
gained about 80 votes froin the last
election, 'against his Liberal oppon-
ent Jaynes Scott. The totals were:
Pryde 78318 and Scott 6330; as com-
pared to Armstrong 6,545 and Pryde
7,937 in the 1.951 election. Hay. Twp.
went ,Pryde 512, Scott 658, a serge
gain, for Pryde from 1951. Hensall
which usually breaks about even gave
Pryde 2.3,2! and 'Scott 173. ,Pride re-
ceived gains in most all rural dis-
tricts, while Scott made his largest
gains in .Seaforth, as Exeter gave
Pude an overwhelming majorrty.And
so this Provincial matter is settred for
another four years at least. The Frost
Government went back with 83 seats,
Lib. 10, OCT' 3 and Lab 2.

A Bit Pre -mature!,
Inglast week's issue we were a
bit .ahead of time 'with the item con-
cerning the •conditionof the Goshei
Line, north of Zurich, as being hard
surfaced, we were a bit misinroraned
as the gravel is in place ready for
the Huron County paving crew to
come along and do the job, and while
they are here the streets in the nor-
thernpart of town will be finished,
as most of these were done lash year.
With the paving of the Goshen north,
and last year the paving of a anile
or so south,
Hay Township will re-
ceive its first hard surface County
road, and we Mope they will continue
on south to join up with No. 83
'Highway, and hats off to Reeve of
'Hay Township, and 1955 Warden, of
_Hay Township,
for . really ;getting
