FORUM MEETS
The Parr Line Farm Forum met at
the home of 'Mr and Mrs Glenn Weida
1.8 members being present. The topic
.for the evening was Safety, on thea
ii:lighways.
Ia What are the:main problems of
afety on the Highway? It was ;gen-
erally agreed that excessive speed
was the No. 1 killer on the highway;
Other factors are— Motorists travel-
ling to slow in heavy traffic causing
"-Other drivers to cut out and pass,
failure to give signals when turning
x stopping; passing on hills; "Drunk
drivers"; failure to stop at railway
crossings; pcdestrants walking on
travelled portion of the streets in
.'urban centres after dark presents a
very dangerous problem to the niot-
Orist; lack of courtesy to others in
driving. B—We think that there
should., be better policing of Danger-
ous Zones, such as speeders, slow
drivers and a careful watch for the
driver who passes on hills and stiff
Penalties banded out, Children should
be taught the safety rules of the
highway in our schools. There alight
••be less accidents if everyone show-
ed the sane courtesy and manner
that we display in our homes.

five years and mechanical checkups,

discussion a recreation period of
euchre was enjoyed. The winners be-
ing Cordon Love and Gordon'Cole-
man. The ladies served lunch. The
next meeting which is the last for the
season will be held at the home of
Mr and Mrs Eldon Jarrott. All `fnem-
bers are reminded of the Forum
Rally to be held in the South Huron
Dist. High School, Exeter on March
29th at '8.30 p.m.

During January and February, 1055, 830 more cows wereationin-
senlinated by the Waterloo Unit than during the corres-
ponding months in the previous year. This is an increase
of 14.5 per cent.

Notice of Special Grants
to all Municipalities. and
School Boards in Ontario
For the intimation of heads 01 municipalities and school hoards,
elementary and secondary, it is announced that:—
THE GOVERNMENT of the Province of Ontario will pay a
special unconditional grant equal to one-half of the basic uncon-
ditional subsidy payable under the Municipal Unconditional
Grants Act, 1953, to every municipality in the Province. While
these grants are completely unconditional they are primarily. in
order to• assist municipalities in special welfare matters where
required and at the same time to stimulate employment. The
total sum being paid for this purpose is $3,750,000
AND THE GOVERNMENT of the Province of Ontario will
pay to each school board in the Province a special grant of $4.G0
for every child of average daily at.tendancc in the elementary
and secondary schools of Ontario. The total amount being paid
for this purpose is $3,500,000.
`HESE: GRANTS, amoUtttingg to $7,250,000 are uncondi-
tional and will he paid as soon as possible about April 15, 1' 55.
Estimated amounts payable to each municipality and hoard are
being communicated to the Clerk of the Municipality. In the
meantime, enquiries should be directed to. the Department of
Municipal Affairs, Parliament Buildings.' Toronto.
.12a. ACl-t MUNICIPALITY and board should take these grants
into consideration in planning programs and setting tax rates
for the year 1955.
