Just Sherry
"You can't get drunk on sherry,"
declared the gracious hostess to a
hesitant youth. But she is dead wrong
Sherry is definitely an alcoholic bev-
erage. It is made ifrom the ferment-
ation of white grapes. .After pressing
thegrapes axe "plastered", i.e. spr-
inkled With gypsum to aid ferment-
ation. After this process, reducing
the sugar content down to eight or
10 degrees, alcohol, often in the form
of brandy, is added to bring the wine
up to 18 or 20 degrees of alcoholic
content. Indeed, even natural sherry
is no where sister in the family of
sweet wines. Herewith comparative
strength contained in several kinds
of sweet wine: Claret 10.5, Camp-
agne 11.0, Sherry (natural) 16,
(fortified) 20; Port (natural) 16,
(fortified) 22. You CAN get drunk
on Sherry. Not many do perhaps, for
it is served in -small doses. But it is
ideal as a "first drink" wine for
youth. It is one of the "innocent"
home cocktail drinks.-Advt.
