Mr and 'Mrs 'Tony Due of God-
erich were ,Saturday callers in town.
Mr and Mrs. E, E. Weido and
family are enjoying a few holidays
over .in Michigan.

in the Town Hall, Zurich.
Very unseasonable cool weather
prevailed over the week -end. And
it is gradually warming up again.

posed to ibe .cooler again.
Mr. Bill O'Brien who is on the stair
of the Bank of Montreal, St. Marys,
spent bhe past week at the Main
Branch, Toronto, helping with In-
apection duties.
The many friends of Mr. Edward
Walper of the Bronson line will re-'
gret to learn that Mr. Walper 7s. un-
der the doctor's care. We wish him
a speedy recovery.
A large. number of people from
the community attended the big
strawberry social and (ball game at
Dashwood last Wednesday evening,
We can assure you it was a most
wonderful supper and was well at-
tended, and the berries were super.
Mr. Philip .Walker of Oakwood,
Grand Bend, who spent the past
few school years at Ottawa, has re-
turned to his home, having written
off his Seniour Matriculation. And
is now ready for advanced ecaication.
Philip gave us a friendly call on
Monday.
Schools are •closing in this district
on Tuesday and Wednesday, and will
remain closed for two -months or in
other words, till after Labour Day.
Not so when we were a lad going to
school, we had to do w.ith a mere
six weeks, and came through with it
allright.
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Bedard of
Tilbury; Mr and Mrs Frank Denom-
me of Chatham, and Mrs. Gilbert
Geoffrey of Windsor were visitors in
town one day last week. They were
'visiting with their mother, Mrs.
Jo 1h Bedard? just north of St.
Joseph.
CAR OVERTURNS
What .might have been a more ser-
ious accident occurred to Mrs. Minnie
Weido of London Saturday morning
while travelling from Blake to the
Zurich Highway, about a mile north
when .some loose gravel, some fog,
and a narrow stretch of road near
a culvert caused her to loose control
of her car and it rolled over in a 11 -
foot ditch upside down. A Mr. Den-
om:me of Mich., happened along and
pulled. Mrs. Weido out of the car
and was assisted by Clare Geiger in
getting her to the top of the ditch.
Mr. Denomme took the patient to
Zurich where she was taken to St.
Joseph's Hospital, London,- and is
.pragr'essing Very favourably. The
.car was considerabbly damaged.
Had Good Band Mus:c
The Zurich Band under the lead-
ership of Mr. Roibinson of London,
and his assistant, rendered a succes-
sful Band 'Concert onSaturday ev-
ening in town. Their first appearance
in public for this summer season.
This was much appreciated, as they
played well which gave Zurich a
splendid atmosphere.. Thanks to all
that took part. Mr. Robinson in his
well chosen remarks, handed the
prize winners of the Huron County
Musical Festival which had been held
at Goderich this spring, their certi-
ficates for first and second prizes:
Kenneth Weido, Bass Solo; Paul
Yungblut, Saxaphone solo; Dianne
Thiel, (Saxaphone solo; Ruth Weido,
Cornet solo ; Marion Turkheim, Clar-
onet solo; Diane Thiel and Paul Yung
blut, Saxaphone duet. Zurich. Marie
Salmon, iClaronet solo; Ruth Anne
Salmon, cornet solo, Dashwood. We
wish them every success and hope
they will continue in this good work.

HAD BIRTHDAY PARTY
On the afternoon of June 17th,
the home of Mrs. Charles Weber was
beautifully decorated with bouquets •
of spring flowers which added to the
happy surroundings for the occasron
when neighbours and friends were
invited by her family in honor of
their mother's 85th (birthday. Mrs.
Weber has been a dressmaker for 612
years and is well to continue her
sewing along with working in her
garden, one• of the loveliest in the
Village. She also takes great pride
in her home duties, is always ready to
give good advice to anyone. Photos
were 'sal own in the afternoon of for-
mer years with her sewing class of
girls, that had the desire to achieve
in making their own garments. Mrs.
Weber was presented with many
beautiful gifts, one being sent from
her only Brother in B. ,C., along with
birthday greetings. She was much
surprised as she opened parcel after
parcel from her friends . Greatly
thanking all of them for thekindness
shown. Her daughter, 'Mrs. Gertrude
Datars also made remarks for the
greatfulness to their mother. All
joined hi singing "Happy Birthday."
Delicious luncheon was served along
with the birthday cake, Her daughter,
Mrs. 1-iugh Thiel poured the tea and
was assisted by Mrs. Gertrude Datars,
Mrs. LeRoy `Thiel, Mrs 1J: W..Broken-
shire and Miss Inez Yungblut. The
happy group wishing Mrs. Weber
Many more birthdays with health; all
adjourned to their homes after the
splendid afternoon together.Mrs.
