Alchalism has made the headlines
very frequently of late. "OPEN DIS-

ence of tie Canadian 'Conference On
June. Members of the legal and medi- who attended the District Conv. at
Durando, Northern Ont. more
complete report will be given at a
later date. Ivan Yungblut introduc-
ed the speaker for the evening In the
person of Jim IMillman, a Public Re-
lations Man from London, and who
presented the local Club with a nice
•crisp new $10.00 bill. This man
Millman could play the piano about
as good and as fast as we have ever
heard, but that was the least, he had
more humor and stories imbeded in
his limitless capacity for such diV-
ersibn of any speaker we have ever
had the !pleasurer of listening to.
Old time Lions with usually hard and
sober faces, really took to laughter
and they laughed till they were near
sick at this Jtian's wise sayings, po-
etry and what -not. We shall not
forget him for a long time. Li on
Orville Witmer thanked him for his
address and coining up from London.
Pres. Ed. .Gascho read a letter from
the 1Goderich Musical Festival giving
the names of the Zurich contestants
who won prizes. A draw for a

Lion Reg. Illsley was drawn and won

a clergyman, an educator and a social
worker described each his method of
meeting problems posed by aleholies.
Very recently the Society for Dentis-
try for children, meeting in Toronto,
had Dr. Bell, .medical director of Tor-
onto's Shadowbrook Health Founda-
tion, address them on alcohor.ism.The
same speaker gave a lecture on the
same subject last fall in 'Convocation
Hall at a meeting sponsored by the
Royal iCanadian Institute. The people
at large are evidently awakening to
the gravity of this health menace. Al-
coholism i the fourth most deadly
disease in the world, according to the
findings of the World Health Organ-
izti.tion. France, a beer and wine coun-
try, ranks second in the number of
alcoholics per 100,000 of population.
The population of Hamilton, Ontario,
is less by some 40,000 than the num-
ber of alcoholics we have in canada.
• The combined populations of Owen
Sorand,Stratford and Woodstock does
net equal the total number of alcoh-
olisc we have in Ontario. These are
