Mr, Orville Ehnes of Detredt, was
a. week -end visitor with his cousins,
the Williams Family. Mr. Ehnes, ac-
empanied by IVIrs. Ehnes recently re-
thrned from a lovely trip south, in
Florida and from there toot the
Plane for Jamacia, where they really
enjoyed the warm climate and sun-
shine, as' they found Florida just a
bit cool. With modern transportat-
kin one can now enjoy going to the
..far corners of the earth with so little
gine in getting there. Truly we live
ni a wonderful age.
The Easter Season
Highway officials report the Easter
traffic as the heaviest in years, far
eXceeding those of recent years, as
also do railways and air passenger
utes. Truly people are travelling.,
d we hope also thinking of the
fety of others as well as them-
lves. And then there is another
ought of what does Easter season

which were largely. attended.
The Ladies' 'Community Choir un-
der direction of J. L. ,Nicon ACCO.,

gram to the inmates of the County

sed thanks for the lovely evening.
On Friday April 16th, Mrs. Agnes
Consitt of Brucefield was honored on
the occasion of her 86th birthday
when friends and relatives including
four generations of her family gath-

came to Brucefield to convey their
congratulations.
The Voice of Temperance
A recent editorial in one of the
leading Toronto dailies has a timely
word to say in regard to the serious-
ness of the growth of the drink evil.
It accepts as. correct the findings of
the Alcoholism Research Youndation,
of Ontario recently published, e.g.that

Can we feel that the laws governing
the sale, distribution and consumpt-
ion- of liquor are adequate?" It point&
out that Ontario is the only Province
which has made positive changes in
liquor legislation within recent times
and where there has been time to as-
sess the consequences. The main pur-
pose of the 1047 legislation was to
bring drinking out of hotel. bedrooiag

this has been done." But it did not
clean up the beer parlours, "As a vis-
it to almost any of them clearly (and
rather repellentlyi) shows." A fur-
ther quotation, "of the 170 arrests
made by the police over the 'week-
end, 135••were directly connected
with liquor, and of those 87 were for
drunkenness/' We in Huron County
have no beer parlours or any otner
license outlets. If the ,Canada Tern -
pence Act does not restrict the toe-
sumption of liquor, why do those fin-
ancially interested in promoting con -
sum tion agitate for its repeal ?Advt.
