Montgomery March 6, 1954 Monday's ice storm, followed by four days of heavy snow fall and high winds have almost completely ; blocked off County and Twp. roads. IlMany meetings and events had to be , cancelled with the Huron Co. Seed Fair being postponed to Friday and Saturday, March 12, 13th, Many {areas are still without Hydro and telephone service and all High Scho- ols in the County were closed some 1 -time during the week. ,Although plowing digging out operations acre underway it will be the m,adle of next week before the County and Township roads will be opened to traffic. CLINTON AREA Youth For Christ TORCH IN THE NIGHT, IS THE TITLE OF THE NEXT COL- OR and SOUND FILM PRODUCED 13y Moody Institute of Science and Brought to Clinton by Had Birthday Mrs. Ed. Datare, :Sr, cerebrated her 83rd birthday at her home here in town on Monday. Her family en- tertained friends- and relatives in her honour. {Many; good wishes were extended to Mrs. Datars throughout the day by telephone calls,- cards and gifts. Mrs. Datars is enjoying splen- did health and is able • to carry on with her household duties. We join her many friends in wishing Mrs. Datars good health. to enjoy many more such events. What A Storm One of the worst storms in years visited these parts last week, with high winds and so much snow falling thousands of motorists were Szrand- ed in Western Ontario; roads were and many are still blocked, and the heavy plowing equipment seems to bog down and become .out of order. Here in town our back streets 'are still mostly plugged with snow, and we are looking to Providence to send us warmer weather to melt up the banks and piles of snow. But a bit of patience -and old man nature will take it all away in his own way. Were On Mission Trip Revs. W. F. Krotz of Dashwood, and H. E. Roppel of Zurich, 'attended a meeting of the Board of 'Missions of the ,Can. Conference in Hamilton last Monday. The business had to do with the relocating and building of a new church on the Hamilton Moun- tain at a point where over 10,000 new residents have settled in the last two or three years without any other church in the community. The new church will take the place of the old Market Street Evangelical church in the heart of the city. Hydro Off dngsday about 3 S0 just e"1ngii,e.as few lines of type the- Hydro power in Zurich went off like a bang, and iwwe were coasting along on daylight getting our forms made up and a proof' pulled of our paper, thinking the power might come on cny mom- ent so that we could run off, but it was a different •tune, a the power did not come on till about five the next morning, so our regular publish- ing hour had passed,- and we were a day late so to speak. But it mat- tered little as mostly every road in the community was plugged up with deep snow banks from the storms raging outside. The trouble we are told was in a transformer south on the Goshen line, which. had to be re- placed, and the men were out in that weather all night, and had to call on a snow plow to combat 'with the big snow drifts. Really it was a he-man's job. Hockey News Season Is Over The hockey season is now over with as far as the Zurich Flyers are concerned, as the final game in the playoffs was won -by Lucan at Exe- ter last Friday night. Those Irish from the town to the south are really tough when it comes to taking a game they really want. However the Zurich Flyers had a wonderful sea- son, not able to win all the games, but who can do that, but they gave a good account of themselves, and were one of the most spectacular teams on ice in this district. Now that the skates are hung away for another season, we hope the boys will be on when the 19514'-55 •call to the skates and hockey stick gives the call to Canada's great National game namely Hockey.
