Lions Club News.
The first February supper meeting
was held on Monday evening in the
Dominion House dining room with a
very good attendance, and the en-
thusiasm was good. Mrs. H. G. Hess,
was the pianist, and peped-up the
singing, Reeve of Hay Township
Earl Campbell was a welcomed vis-
itor by Lion Delbert Geiger, who is
also a member of the Hay Council.
Minutes were read by Secy., George
Deichert and adopted. In following
an announcement of a -previOus
meeting that .occasionally a life his-
tory sketch will be given of the Club's
past presdients, the second president
of the :club, namely Lion Ivan Yung-
blut's ibiography wasoread off by Lion
Leroy O'Brien, which was full of
humor and related anany incidents of
Ivan's past life since he first saw the
light of day, such as flax pulling,
a venture of 'sheep raising, etc. The
guest speaker for the evening was
introduced hy Lion Gordon Hess, Mr.
Free Peel, of Seaforth, who is a
manufacturer, a member of Seaforth
Lions Club, and who has been exten-
sively abroad, and is an enthusiast of
photography, and showed ;many pic-
tures of interest in England, France
and Italy. Soin,e most beautiful
scenes one would care to see. Mr.
Peel also had the experience of being
behind the Iron Curtain, being In
the.eastern part of Berlin, Germany,
Which is under Russian control, and
he gave us' a bit of information as
to eonditions there; all places of bus-
iness, like retail stores, contain very
little goods. The country eeni.
poor, especially on the Russian side
while oh the western part of the
city, under the United Nations con-
trol things look nmcii better. But he
says our western standard of living
is not revealed to the Russian people,
who in ignorance think they have the
best way of life. It was a very in-
teresting talk illustrated by pietures,
and the Loris gained, onte:h loto'cvled-
ge not heretofore told at midi Meet-
ings. A business session followed the
speaker who' was thanked by Lion
Milfred Schilbe for his lovely talk
and showing of pictures,.
