JEAN ELLIOTT, Returning ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS Fly -Up And Enrolment Ceremony Held for Local Guides and Brownies Last Thursday evening the Brownies and Girl Guides had a combination meeting for enrol- ment and fly -up ceremony, with Brown. Owl May Rowe, Hensall. and mothers, for guests. Acting Brown Owl, Anne Flax - Thiel Couple Have 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Elmore Thiel, Zurich, celebrated their 50th wed- ding anniversary on Sunday, No- vember 22, 1959, when 40 guests were present for a lovely fowl dinner. On November 24, 1909, Amelia Koch, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Koch, Dashwood, and Elmore Thiel, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Thiel, Zu- rich, were united in marriage in Zion Lutheran Church in Dash- wood, by Rev. G. Thun. The at- tendants at the wedding were Ad- am Thiel, a cousin of the groom, now of Alberta, and Lovina Koch, a sister of the bride (Mrs. John Dale, now deceased). They have resided in Zurich for the past 19 years. The family con- sists of three sons and one dau- ghter: Harold and Carl, both of Zurich; Milford, in B.C.; and Mrs. John McClinchey (Berniece), Blyth, also 11 grandchildren. The dining room was decorated with white bells and streamers, yellow and mauve 'mums, a gift of the grandchildren. The table was centred with a three story wedding cake baked and decorat- ed by Mrs. Earl Flaxbard, Zurich. Mrs. George Thiel, Sr., 85 years of age and an aunt of the family, was present for the occasion. The address was read by their oldest son, Harold, and the par- ents were presented with a studio couch. Gifts and cards were re- ceived from friends and relatives, including a telegram from a neph- ew, Milfred Doerr, in Penzance. Sask. They also received a gift from Mr. Adam Thiel, who was at the wedding 50 years ago., Those present for the occasion attended from Mt. Clemens. Mich.; New Baltimore, Mich.; Woodstock; London; Laird, Sask.; Dashwood, Blyth and Zurich. The Brownies wel- comed the District Commissioner, Miss Lauretta., Siegner, Exeter, with the Grand Howl. Guide Cap- tain Auleen Rose and color party, Guides Elizabeth Johnston, Ruth and Barbara Clausius had Guide opening and performed the horse- shoe formation around Brownie ring. Miss Seigner enrolled Brownie recruits: Bonnie Banko, Charlene Bedard, Joanne Thiel, Linda Stade, Sandra Des;jardine, Elaine Westlake and Shirley Thiel, pre- senting each with a recruit pin, and six emblem. Each new Brown- ie was received by sixer and mem- bers with the Brownie horseshoe. Badges were given to Elaine Hugill, Golden Hand, House Ord- erly, Needleworker, Woodworker; Linda Gescho, Golden Hand, House Orderly; Sue Ann Coxon, Golden Hand. Each then received their wings and were received in the Guide Company by Guiders Ruth Ann and Shirley Flaxbard. Mrs. E. Zimmer, Ladies Auxiliary presi- dent, thanked Kay Webb for ser- vices as Girl Guide Captain for the past two years. Grieves, assistant agricultural representative for Huron.. and Winston Shanton, Huron Federa- tion president.
