Unique Farm
Forum.
Members of the Unique Farm
Forton met at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Leonard Merner to dis-
cuss the topic: "Farmers in the
Market Place". Mr. Merner Was
chairman for the meeting and the
meeting got under way with
group discussion.
The questions were answered as
follows
Question 1: "Co-operatives have
undertaken many jobs that need
be done. Among them are: Edu-
cation (both producer and con-
sumer) ; credit assistance, market
development, merchandising, dis-
tribution sales. Which of these
jobs need to be done but are riot
being carried out in the commodi-
ties with which you are familiar?"
Answer: We feel that "market
development", "distribution sales"
and "merchandising" need to be
done.
Question 2: "How do you pro-
pose that these jobs be done?"
Answer: Co-op marketing boards
with proper authorities. We could
build our own slaughter houses
by deducting two or three dollars
per hog and also use this money
to dispose of surplus pork. It was
felt that the price spread of egg,-,
for instance between producer and
consumer was definitely out of
line, and the method of distribu-
tion should be thoroughly investi-
gated.
Albert Kalhfleisch was present
at the meeting;, and. gave a short
talk on the topic. He urged the
farmers to stick together and
strive for their rights. The tonic
for the next meeting. "Social Se-
curity on Canadian Farms" will
be taken by Mr. Bert Klopp. The
meeting will be held at the home,
of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Klopp, to
discuss this topic.

Parr Line Farm
Forum.
Parr Line Farm Forum met at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon
Jarrott on Monday evening with
Mrs. Lovina Reichert as hostess.
Topic for discussion "Farmers in
The Market Place."
Question one: "Co-operatives
have undertaken many jobs that
need to be done. Among then are
education (both consumer and
producer) credit assistance, mar-
ket development, merchandising,
distribution sales. Which of these
jobs need to be done but are not
being carried out in the commodi-
ties with which you are famil-
iar?"
Answer: We feel that United
Co-operatives of Ontario is doing
a good job on education and man-
agement training for local co-ops
and information on the use of
feeds, fertilizers and sprays. Cre-
dit assistance is given to local
co-ops. Market development, mer-
chandising. distribution sales are
being well carried out in such
items as dried milk, butter,
cheese, poultry and livestock.
Other co-ops such as the On-
tario Hog Producers Co -on and
Marketing Board, the Ontario
Wheat Producers Marketing
Board and White Bean Marketing
Board have not been active in
producer and consumer education
Credit assistance does not come
within their limits. A great deal
of trine' should he spent by Co-
ops in market development. In or-
der to undertake merchandising
and distribution sales Co-ops
would have to be active in proces-
sing. Mime research is needed in
marketing,
Question two: "How do you pro -
nose that these jobs be done?"
Answer: In order to enter the
merch indising and distribut inn
