Church "J' iomen by Elgin McKinley The W,S.W.S, and. Ladies' Aid of Emmanuel E.U.B. Church, Zu- rich, met on Tuesday, November 12, with Mrs. Leonard Merner in the chair. Mrs. Beatrice Hess was pianist for the meeting. Af- ter the singing of a hymn, Mrs. Clarence Schade read the Scrip- ture and Mrs. Milton Deitz led in prayer. Mrs. Milton Oesch and Urban Pfile sang a duet, "Let me hide myself in Thee". Mrs. New- ell Geiger read a poem. Mrs. Peter Gingerich gave the topic on Stewardship. The subject was "The practice of our part- nership with God". God owns everything. We only possess what God has entrusted to us. Stew- ardship is a way of life. We must apply it to every relationship of our life. We must make Christ supreme. His church is limited or empowered by our gifts of time and money. God so loved the world that He gave His only be- gotten Son, the very best gift. Are our gifts the first fruits or the left overs? The stewardship of time and ability cannot be separated. We can serve either God or self. How often we say, "I am too busy," when we have an opportunity of service. "How do we start our days? I hope it is with prayer and Bible reading. Prayer faith is power faith. Prayer .brings the power of God into our world. We can bring Christ and some needy person to- gether through prayer. "Family religion and love of the Bible is very important for the family. We should worship together in church on the Lord's Day. There is nothing better than filled family pews. There may be problems which we do not know how to solve. We can see God's hand in it all at the end of the day. "Our church teaches the value of tithing. We would need no other method of church finance if all the members were tithers. Horace Bushnell said, 'There is only one more revival needed, and that is the revival of steward- ship.' When that revival comes, the Kingdom of God will come in a day." Mr. Elgin McKinley gave a very instructive t emperance address. He stated that he was glad that the people are so concerned about this issue. "The whole county will be treated as Local Option if the GTA is defeated on November 30. Since 1947, we have been under the CTA so far as Liquor Legisla- tion is concerned. A petition was sent in to the government, and a lot of people did not brow what they were signing. Those who took around the petition were given 15 cents a name. `Curb teenage drinking,' was their cry. "Five proposed amendments have been before the government, which would greatly strengthen the Act. A temperance delegation met the Hon. David Fulton, who had just been elected. He promis- ed to look into the matter. This July, the entire matter was trans- ferred to the Secretary of State. They received a splendid recep- tion from him. He knew all about it, It will be January or Feb- ruary before it can be amended. "Where the LCA is in effect they are asking for longer hours of sale, and also to be open on Sundays. What would we get if we voted for Revocation? We do not know what will happen. The big liquor interests want to get rid of the CTA. If I didn't know anything else about it, that would be enough for me to vote against the Revocation. We be- lieve that the big liquor interests are doing the most of the financ- ing. A representative was at the Clinton Lions Club, who gave out three bottles of liquor as a door prize. They want to sell more. The increased potential in Huron County amounts to two million dollars. The mare outlets there are, the more liquor will be sold." "The CTA is a Dominion Law. Other Dominion Laws can be us- ed in connection with the CTA. By the use of the Criminal Code a drunk man can be arrested. The Criminal Code covers most of the abuses that arise. "Legal sale of liquor has doub- led in ten years in Ontario, while the population has increased by 20 percent. For every dollar they take in in revenue, it costs $2.50 to take care of. the damage caus- ed by drinking. Many tragedies result from drunken driving. When your neighbour is killed by a drunken driver, you feel it more. It doesn't make any dif- ference if it is legal liquor or bootleg liquor. The effect is the same. Bootleggers will not be el- iminated by the LCA." Mrs. Delbert Geiger took charge of the business session. The committee in charge of the program was composed of the fol- lowing, Mrs. Leonard Merrier, Mrs, Clarence Schade, Mrs. Chris Hoist, Mrs, Milton Oesch, Mrs. Elizzie Hey, Mrs. Milton Deitz, and Mrs. Blake Horner. 0 CARDS OF THANKS The family of the late Mrs. Matilda MacKinnon wish to thank all their friends, neighbours and relatives for the many acts of kindness shown them, and the messages of sympathy extended, during their recent sad bereave- ment. 46b The family of the late John Brown, Zurich, wish to express their sincere thanks for all the cards, visits, flowers and inquir- ies, while he was a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London.
