Present Show
The township hall in Varna was
filled to capacity on Wednesday
evening, October 21, when the
Young People of Varna and Go-
shen presented a minstrel show
and play.
Mrs. Addie Willis was pianist
and organizer. The "darkies" op-
ened the show with the song, "In
the Evening by the 1VlooYilight"
Solos were sung by Bill Elliott
with, "Five Foot Two"; Doug Mc -
Ash singing, "De Camptown RAO,
es"; Malcolm Clarke with "The
Bells are Ringing"; Keith Steph-
enson with "Caroline"; "You Tell
Me Your Dream", by Allan Hayt-
er and "My Girl's a High Borne
Lady", by Bob McClymont. All
were accompanied with the min-
strel singers, who also sang a
medley of southern songs. This
part of the show closed with sing-
ing "Old Black Joe" with soloist
Bill Elliott.
After a short intermission the
boys put on a play entitled "The
Chicken Lifters Convenshun".
This was followed with a scene
from Varna's most exclusive rest-
aurant, with top-notch entertain-
ers such
as the "Andrew A 1 ew S ist
err"
(Gail McBride, Donna Hayter,
Marlene McClinchey and Joan
McClymont); "Pearl Bailey and
son Sambo", (Edith Dawson and
Burt Coleman) ; "Perry Como"
(Frank Postill) and "Juliette",
(Gary McAsh).
At the close of the show Mrs.
Willis was presented with .a gift
from the young people. The ush-
ers were Joyce Hayter and Marg-
aret Allington. The Woman's As-
sociation served lunch and Bill El-
liott thanked them. The Master of
Ceremonies for the show was Ivan
McClymont.

of his son, Dr. William Ross Da -
tars, and Eleanor Rose Wismer.
White 'mums formed the setting
for the evening ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wismer,
RR 2, Kitchener, are the bride's
parents. Dr. Datars, who lives in
Ottawa, is a son of Rev. and Mrs.
Datars, Tavistock.
The bride's formal tissue fraille
gown was styled with a portrait
neckline and tiny sleeves. White
velvet ribbon embroidered with
seed pearls trimmed the hooped
skirt and snatching gloves.
A tiara of seed pearls held her
shoulder length nylon tulle veil.
She carried talisman rosebuds and
stephanotis.
Mrs. James Lehnen, Kitchener,
was matron of honor in a green
nylon chiffon gown and matching
headdress. She carried bronze
pompoms.
Mr. John Robert Datars, Pem-
broke, was best man for his twin
brother. Ushers were Mr. John
Braden, Montreal and Mr. Lehnen.
The reception was held in the
Walper Hotel. After a trip to the
Adirondacks and Quebec City they
will live at 621 Cummings Ave.,
Ottawa.

Lorne Luker

Lorne Luker, prominent Hen-
sall resident, passed away at his
home on Sunday evening, October
25, following a short illness. He
was in his 80th year. Born in Hay
Township where he farmed suc-
cessfully, Mr. Luker retired to
Hensel) 13 years ago.
In municipal life he served on
the Hensall council for eight
years, was a former member of
the park board and of the cham-
ber of commerce, and a member
of Carmel Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, the for-
mer Bessie Love, one sister, Mrs.
Olive Hodgins, Exeter, and one
nephew, Lorne Hodgins, Lucan.
Private funeral service will be
held from the Bonthron funeral
chapel, Hensall, today, (Wednes-
day), at 2.30 p.m., conducted by
Mr. George Vais, with interment
to be made in 13aird's Cemetery.

sall, were Sunday visitors with
the latter's son, Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Oesch and family.

leen, Mr.} and Mrs. Roy Ginger-
ich and Melvin and Mr. and Mrs.
Amos Gingerich.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Gingerich
and family spent Sunday with
friends at Kitchener.
Mr. and Mrs. William Steckle
were Sunday guests with the for-
mer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan
Steckle and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Oesch, Zu-
rich, called on the former's aunt,
Mrs. Lizzie Oesch, on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Schwartzen-
truber and family, New Hamburg,
visited with relatives and friends
here over the weekend.
