Lutheran. Women
Hear Various
Aims Of U.N.
The United Lutheran Church
Women held their regular meet-
ing in the church basement on
Tuesday, October 20. Mrs. Harold
Thiel and Mrs. Earl Flaxbard
presented the topic "You and the
United Nations". The headquart-
ers are situated in the heart of
New York City on an 18 -acre
tract of land.
The aims of the United Nations
are: (1) To save succeeding gen-
erations from the scourge of war.
(2) To reaffirm faith in funda-
mental human rights. (3) To esta-
blish justice and respect for in-
ternational obligations. _ (4) To
promote social progress and bet-
ter standards of life.
What is the United Nations?
As an association of people and
nations; it is one organization
made of six parts. These are the
General Assembly, The Security
Council, The Economic and Soc-
ial Council, The Trusteeship Coun-
cil, The International Court of
Justice and the Secretarial (of-
fices).
Large colored post cards and a
book of the United Nations help.
ed to make the topic more fami-
liar to the members.
The U.L.C.W. decided to spon-
sor a Christmas project and pack
the clothes which they received
in the clothing drive. The meet-
ing closed with the Missionary
benediction.
To Enjoy Treat
Hallowe'en Night
(By our Hensall Correspondent)
At the dinner meeting of the
Kinsmen club, held last Thursday
evening, plans were finalized for
the Hallowe'en party for the chil-
dren of Hensall and district, to be
held at the town hall on Satur-
day night, October 31.
A parade headed by a band
from the public school to the
hall, will be featured. Comedy
colored movies will be shown in
the town hall, and children will
be presented with treats of candy.
Guests at the dinner meeting
were Dorgan Burns and John Bak-
er. President Ross Jinks chaired
the meeting and Bill Fuss won
the raffle,
TOMMY'S DOLLAR
Tommy is saving up for a bike. Dollar by dollar,
week by week, his bank account is growing...
bringing the Big Day nearer.
But meanwhile, Tommy's dollars are serving a
second useful purpose.
•
Bank credit is based on the dollars Canadians
keep in 11 million deposit accounts in the
chartered banks—and Tommy's account is one
of them. Bank loans are constantly being made
to meet the needs of business and personal
borrowers in all parts of Canada.
•
So every time you make a deposit you are—
like Tommy—building toward something worth-
while for yourself, and at the same time keeping
your dollars at work for the benefit of all.
