Zurich Juveniles Lose First Game
To Wilton Grove; Play Poor gall
Playing lackadaisical ball afte'l
a three-week layoff, the Zurich
Lions Juveniles lost the first
game of their best -of -three play-
offs with the Wilton Grove Juven-
iles by the score of 14-7. The
game was played in Zurich this
past Saturday afternoon, with the
second game scheduled for Wilton
Grove today, Wednesday, at 4
p.m. If a third game is necessary
it will be played in Zurich on Sat-
urday afternoon.
The locals chipped in for a to-
tal of 10 errors in the loosely play-
ed contest, while the visitors had
six miscues. Zurich was outhit
11-9.
A combination of errors and
walks was the downfall of the
locals, as 13 Wilton Grove batters
reached first base via the four
balls routine. On top of this the
visitors had a total of 15 stolen
bases to their credit.
Wilton Grove went three runs
up in the first inning, on only
one hit. They added another four
big runs in the fourth on two
more singles, and had anot her big
rally in the ninth. when they scor-
ed three runs on only two hits. In
all the other innings they added
single runs.
The brightest spot in the loss
for the locals was the hitting
power shown by catcher Dennis
Amacher, who pounded out four
hits in four times at bat, He was
the only player for the locals who
hit safely more than once.
Zurich had two big innings, in
which they scored a total of six
runs. In the third they scored
three runs an two hits and two
Wilton Grove errors. and in the
sixth three more runs on two hits
and two errors. It was in the
last of the sixth that they came
the closest to tieing the score.
when it was 9-7 for Wilton Grove.
Even though he was bothered
with wildness after being idle for
three weeks, pitcher John Masse
struck out ten Wilton Grove bat-
ters. Miller, on the mound for the
visitors, struck out eight Zurich
batters, as well as being the top
batter for his team, with four
hits in five times at bat,
After getting a bad game out of
their system the locals are quite
confident they can come back
with a victory today, to force a
third and deciding game here on
Saturday.

TRADE FAIR — TUESDAY NIGHT
DANCE — THURSDAY NIGHT
The village trustees decided on
Monday night to construct a num-
ber of new sidewalks throughout
the village this fall. In many plac-
es the old sidewalks are no long
er in a safe condition, so they
felt it advisable to proceed with
the work as soon as possible.
In other business the council
decided to call tenders to install
new roofs on two of the pump -
houses which belong to the water
system.
New water mains are to be
laid in one section of town so as
to provide better water service
to Pearson Motors garage and
Rader and Mittelholtz hardware.
At present time these two places
are being serviced by only a small
pipe, which cannot supply enough
water for their demands.
