Zurich Takes Over First Place in H®P,
With 12-7 Victory Over Mitchell
The Zurich Lurnberkings troun-
ced the Mitchell Lincolns 12-7 last
Friday night in Mitchell to take
Over undisputed possession of first
place in the Huron -Perth League,
The game was called in the sev-
enth inning on account of dark-
ness,
Although lefty Claude Tessier
gave up only one hit in the six -in-
ning affair he walked seven bat-
ters and had five stolen bases ag-
ainst him to allow the Lincolns to
score their seven runs. He also
had four wild pitches. Two Mit-
chell batters went down via the
stikeout route.
Porky Wallace was on the
mound for the Lincolns, and gave
up 10 hits to the Kings. He walk-
ed eight, and struck out nine.
Bi11 Yungblut was the power-
house of the Zurich attack,
smashing out three hits in four
times at bat, one of them a double.
Doug O'Brien and Jerry Bell each
had two hits.
A double by Danny Trushinski
in the first inning after both Doug
and Don O'Brien were on base
scored the first two Zurich runs,
Bill Yungblut drove in two of the
three runs scored in the second,
with the first of his three hits.
In the fourth Yungblut again
drove in two runs with his double
to deep left field, and then scared
himself on Bell's single. The fifth
inning saw the big third sacker
drive in three more runs, with
what should have been his second
double of the night, but he was
given a bad call going into second
and was out.
George Coveney earned the lone
Mitchell hit, a single in the fourth.

Arn Meyer Pitches eat Three -Hitter
Iu'King's 64 Victory Over St.Marys
Combining the neat three -hit
pitching effort of Arnie Meyer and
12 base hits the Zurich Lumber -
kings trampled the St, Marys Leg-
ionnaires 6-1 in the Stonetown on
Wednesday night. Meyer was in
complete control all the way, as
he struck out seven batters and
gave up only three bases on balls.
A timely single by George Park-
er in the fourth inning accounted
for the first two Zurich runs, aft-
er Danny Trushinski and John
Wilson had both led off with suc-
cessive singles.
Three singles in a row in the
fifth inning sent two more runs
across the plate for the 'Kings.
Bill Craig, Don O'Brien and Bill
Yungblut each hit safely, followed
by a sacrifice fly by Gerry Bell.
The final two runs came in the
seventh, after Don O'Brien had
walked, and Bill Yungblut reach-
ed first on an error. Singles by
Gerry Bell and John Wilson, along
with Danny Trushinski reaching
first on a fielder's choice, for the
two runs.
St. Marys scored their lone run
in the third inning, without a hit.
Havis, on the mound for St..
Marys, gave up 12 hits, walked
five, and struck out four Zurnch
batters.
All 12 Zurich hits were singles,
with Bill Craig, Danny Trushinski,
and John Wilson leading the par-
ade with two each. Not one of the
players on the locals lineup fail-
ed to hit safely at least once.
Errrs Prove Costly As Luniberkings
Settle For 3-3 Tie With St. Marys
Four bad errors proved costly
to Zurich Lumberkings on Monday
night as they were only able to
salvage a tie in a game with St.
Marys Legionaires in Zurich. The
locals out -hit the visitors 6-3.
Jerry Bell was on the mound for
the Kings. and gave the Legion-
aires but three scattered hits. Two
of the runs were unearned.
He struck out eight batters in the
six -inning contest, and walked
three.
Lou Bradshaw, former Kitchen-
er Junior star, pitched for St.
Marys, and while he gave up six
hits, he was very effective in the
pinches. He struck out three and
walked one.
Zurich remained off the score
sheet until the third inning, when
Pete Masse reached first on a line
shot single, took second on a pas-
sed ball, and scored on 13111 Craig's
smashing double to right field.
The Kings' second run came in
the fourth, when Danny Trushin-
ski reached first on a fielder's
choice, was advanced to second by
a walk to John Wilson, and then
scored on Am Meyer's double over
the left field fence, which was on-
ly a few feet short of being a
home run.
St, Marys scored once in the
fourth, on a home run by Norm
Noble, over the left field fence,
and then added single tallies in
the fifth and sixth.
With St. Marys leading 3-2 go-
ing into the last inning Danny
Trushinski reached first base on
an error to the •St. Marys short-
stop, he stole second and then
scored on John Wilson's double to
deep centre field. Wilson in turn
reached third base on a passed
ball, but the next two batters were
unable to drive him in. Six Zur-
ich runners were left on base
throughout the six innings.
