Treasures!
• Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth,
where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where
thieves break through and steal:
• But lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven,

where thieves do not break through and steal:
O For where your treasure is, there your heart will

Cherry Ripe! The Season is Here
For Firm, Plump, Shiny Fruit
July is the traditional cherry
month and with the height of the
season in Ontario fast approach-
ing, cherries can make an inex-
pensive as well as delicious cont-
ribution to your menus. Since most
of the sour cherry crop goes to
commercial freezing and canning
companies, the fresh cherries now
on the market are largely sweet
ones. Ontario Department of Agri-
culture Fruit Branch personnel
stress the point that consumers
should look for the grade mark
(Select, No: 1, No. 2 or Domestic)
on the basket of cherries, as well
as the name and address of the
packer or grower. If the buyer
finds anything wrong with the
pack, he then has the opportunity
of writing or phoning the grower
or packer.
When choosing cherries, pick
out those that are firm, plump
and shiny. Avoid cherries that are
blemished and have brown spots.
Cherries provide a colourful ad-
dition to summer fruit salads, one
especially tempting combination

being melon balls, peaches and
cherries with a bit of lime to ac-
cent the fruit flavours. Cherries
provide a delightful garnish for
cottege cheese salad, too.
Cherries can do wonders for
summertime desserts such as pies,
cobblers; puddings and upside-
down cakes and even glorify the
breakfast table when added (chop-
ped) to griddle cake batter. Serve
the pancakes hot, with plenty of
butter and syrup made of cherry
juice and sugar.

TWICE!
The C.T.A. is good law. Twice
its validity has been challenged
in the higher courts. At one time
the Province of Ontario appeal-
ed to the Privy Council claim-
ing that liquor control was a
provincial matter, The Privy
Council ruled that the C.T.A,
was good law and had been
properly passed.
The second appeal in 1935 was
delayed by the war and reached
the Privy Council in 1946. Again
the Act was ruled good, and in
addition the question was de-
clared settled for once and for
all.
Huron County under the
C.T.A, has no legal liquor out-
lets whatever. Not a single beer
parlour, liquor store, brewer's
warehouse, cocktail bar can be
found here. Many bottle clubs
have been opened from time to
time, but few have been able to
operate legally for long. Our
Crown Attorney takes effective
action whenever he finds suffi-
cient cause. The court records
prove that the C.T.A. has teeth.
