Lumberkings ngs Blast Two ashwood
Pitchers For 14 Hits—Winning 12-0
A combination of neat six -hit
pitching on the part of Arnie
Meyer, and 14 base hits was all
the Zurich Lumberkings needed to
swamp the Dashwood Tigers 12-0
last Wednesday night in Zurich.
Pitching his first game of the sea-
son for the locals, Meyer was
extremely effective as he gave up
only six hits. and walked but four
Tigers. He struck out four.
Danny Trushinski was the hit-
ting star for Zurich, smashing out
three hits in three official times
at bat.

Wilson, Gerry Bell, and Don
O'Brien each had two hits for the
locals.
The combination of Dave Ratz
and Steve Doucette on the hill for
the Tigers could do little to stop
the heavy -hitting Lumberkings.
Only one Zurich batter struck out
during the entire eight innings,
while five of them worked bases
on balls.
Playing manager Don O'Brien
opened the scoring early in the
game with his inside the park hom-
er. The only other extra base blow
for the Kings came off the bat
of Bill Craig, a double in the
seventh.
A new record of some sort was
set in the game, as the Zurich
team had a total of 12 stolen
bases.

Goderich Man
Fined 4;100 Over
Hayter Accident
One hundred dollars fine, and
costs, plus six months suspension
of drivers license was the levy
against Paul Armstead in Magis-
trate's court in Clinton last Tues-
day morning. The Goderich man
pleaded guilty to a charge of care-
less driving laid following a car
accident on May 8, on the Bay-
field Road in which W. Hayter,
V arna, was fatally injured.
Defense counsel Campbell Grant,
Walkerton, called no witnesses,
but suggested that his client was
of an excitable nature, and that
probably after drinking might not
react the same while driving as
other men might. Grant said that
"we'll always have these accidents
no matter how careful we are".
Crown Attorney Glenn Hays,
Goderich, called only Constable
H. D. Hobbs of the OPP detach-
ment, Goderich, as witness. The
officer presented evidence given
before at the inquest, for the mag-
istrate's consideration. He was.lat-
er congratulated by defense coun-
cil for the clear way in which
the details were presented.
Addressing Mr. Armstead, the
magistrate said there was little he
could say.. "You have your own
knowledge of this affair to live
with. One thing I will warn you
—future convictions will find the
court far from lenient, Negligence
in this matter comes very close to
criminal neglicence."
