Ladies Aid Entertains
The Ladies Aid of Zion Luther-
an Church entertained the Ladies
Aid of Dashwood Evangelical Un-
ited Brethren Church and the Lad-
les Aid of Zurich Lutheran Church
at a picnic supper, followed by
sports, on Friday, July 10. Ap-
proximately 100 attended.
Following supper swing bowling
was enjoyed. Winners were: high,
Rev. J. W. Gillings; low, Mrs. Vio-
let Adkins; making a button hole,
Mrs. Violet Decker; breaking a
balloon, Mrs. Gordon Bender and
Mrs. Reinhardt Keller; newspaper
ads, Mrs Alice Thiel and Mrs.
Carl OeStreicher; modelling hat,
Mrs. Ed, Nadiger; blowing bal-
loon, Mrs. Ray Fisher; throwing
softball in basket, Rev. K. L. Zorn.
Several relays were enjoyed.
Awards were given to the lady
with the highest heels, Mrs. Ger-

the ladies on behalf of the EUB
church and Mrs. Annie Finkbeiner
on behalf of the Zurich ladies.
Dashwood Dirt Daubers
The third meeting of the Garden
Club was held June 22 at the home
of Catherine and Joan Rader, with
eight girls and the leaders present.

Sealed tenders for the supply of fuel oil for the
Huron County Court House, Goderich, and the Huron
County Registry Office, Goderich, will be received by
the undersigned until Monday, July 20, 1959 at 5.00
p.m.
Tenders are to be sealed and clearly marked as to
contents. Tenders may be for each of the above, or they
may be combined into one tender.
Specifications for fuel oil are as follows:
"No. 2 light industrial fuel oil."
Lowest or any tender not necessarily accepted.

Following the 4-H pledge the sec-
retary reported on the last meet-
ing,

m Discussions on "progress in the
garden," "thinning", "weed con -
troll," "insect and diseases," and
"staking tomatoes" were held, al-
so, 'How many vegetables did you
eat today?" and "preparing and
cooking vegetables" were discus-
sed as well as "Flower arrange-
ments, cutting and arranging flow-
ers, flower containers and hold-
ers."
The leaders gave a demonstra-
tion on arranging flowers in a vase
and each girl arranged her own.
Home assignment, one, garden-
ing, two, record book up to date,
three, start reference file, four,
arrange flowers for a dining room
table at least once, five, prepare
and serve vegetables when ready.
Roll call, "Bring in two veget-
ables of any one kind. The meet-
ing closed with lunch served by
the hostesses.
Music. Examinations
Miss Idella Gabel, A.R.C.T. an-
nounces the results of her pupils
who recently tried music with the
Royal Conservatory of Toronto
at London: grade six, Margaret
Hotson, honours; grade five, Ruth-
anne Rader, honours; grade four,
Roy McAdams, honours; grade
three, Lynda Rader and Mary Ann
Hayter, both honours; grade two
theory, Margaret Hotson, first
class honours.
Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Stelck,
Bradford ,vacationed with Mr. and
Mrs. Ed. Stelck.
Mr, and Mrs. Mike Burke,
Brampton, spent the weekend
with Mr. Milton Haugh.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Poland and
family, Campbellford, vacationed
for several days with Mrs. Cora
Gaiser.

Barbecue
The Bayfield Baptist Young Peo-
ple held a barbecue at the home
of Gladwin Westlake, on Friday
evening. Over 50 young people
from Bayfield and surrounding
districts attended.
The evening was rounded out
with outdoor games, a lively sing
song and a challenging message
by Joe Baker, Wingham, director
of Tri -County Youth For Christ.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Reardon
and Ricky, spent the weekend with
Mr. and Mrs. Gladwin Westlake.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mullinix,
Mitchell, spent Sunday afternoon
with Miss Ann Westlake.
Mr. and Mrs. George Hess, Hen-
sall, called on their aunt, Mrs. S.
Carnie, on Friday afternoon, on
their way home from the West.
Mrs. McLean, and grandchildren
Barry McLean and Johnnie Don-
aldson, Wingham, spent the past
week with her daughter and son -
m -law, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon West-
lake and family,
Mr. and Mrs. J. Donaldson and
Nancy, Wingham, were Sunday
visitors at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Westlake.
Miss Rose Snowden who has
been a patient at Queensway Nur-
sing Home, Hensel], returned to
her home last Thursday afternoon.
We are sorry to report that Mrs.
E. A. Westlake is at present a
patient in Seaforth Hospital, hav-
ing been admitted last Saturday
morning.
Miss Lynnda Scotchmer spent
the weekend with Helen and Phyl-
lis Grainger.

The daily iron production of a
blast furnace was increased from
653 tons to 1,073 tons by replac-
ing natural iron ore with sinter,
a combination of iron and other
materials, at the Steel Company
of Canada's plant at Hamilton,
Ontario,
