THE FALLS
I almost hesitate to direct you
to the Falls for a stampede of
readers might desecrate the bless-
ed quiet of one of the few still
unspoiled nature spots in this
area.
The Falls are two miles east
of Goderich and the entrance is
marked only by a sign posted on
the side of a barn. After driving
along a lane, through several
fields, one descends abruptly to

the river bed where the broad
Maitland River flows leisurely to-
ward the lake. Nestled in the
steep hillside are seven cabins.
These are very modest indeed,
containing the usual motley assort-
ment of dishes and furniture one
finds in a summer cottage. The
only "modern" conveniences are a
gas stove and ice -box. Surprising-
ly enough this doesn't seem to
matter since housekeeping is re-
duced to an extreme minimum.
Lack of hydro, enforces the old
rule "Early to Bed", however, the

There are miles of wooded hill-

green beneath them. Only on Sun-
day does the trampling feet of the
tourist disturb the quiet. Usually
from 50 to 100 cars come to take
advantage of the picnic tables and
outside fire -place. During the week
one seldom sees a soul.
For anyone on a limited vaca-
tion budget, who enjoys quiet idle-
ness, I recommend this little re-
sort. I personally hope it stays just
as it is for many years to come, as
these "back to nature" spots are
becoming far too rare.
HAVE A CARROT!
Do your eyes bother you? Eat
a carrot. Even if your eyes seem
perfect, eat a carrot. It may im-
prove them. Are you blinded at
night by the headlights of an
automobile? Eat a carrot.
Why? Because your eye is a
very sensitive and complex organ.
In the retina, which receives the
light image, is a substance called
"visual purple". This is sensitive
to light. It is this "visual purple"
upon which depends the sharpness
of your vision. A little of it is
used up with every glance. Every
beam of light which strikes your
eye takes its toll of "visual purp-
le". Your eyes become weaker as
you use them. Your sight becomes
less clear.
What can you do to restore it?
Supply your eyes with vitambin A.
This vitamin regenerates the "vis-
ual purple" which is used up in
your eyes during the process of
seeing. And in carrots is one of the
best places to find vitamin A.
Carotene is the active substance
found in carrots. It was given re- J
cently by a large company to its
inspectors whose work was to ,
match colors. The efficiency of
these inspectors was increased 75
percent. The use of this carotene
saved their eyesight. It saved the T
company thousands of dollars.
No matter how busy we are J
we should spare the time to care F
for our eyes. The first and most
important thing to remember is -1A
keep them clean. Wash them with
cold water nightly, using an eye- , S
cup.
If your eyes are strained or
blood shot bathe them first with .•a simple borae-acid solution you J
can make yourself, then soak fresh i
