Finkbeiner welcomed Pastor and
Mrs. Fischer to the meetings, and
Mrs. Fischer was accepted as a
member of the society.
The secretary, Mrs. Ed. Datars,
and the treasurer, Mrs, Earl
Thiel, gave their reports, after
which the visiting committee re-
ported making 14 calls. The visit-
ing committee for the following
month will be Mrs. Lorne Rader
and Mrs. Loretta Weido while
Mrs, Jack Turkheim and Miss
Freida Haberer will be the flower
committee,
The Sunday School is planning
a congregational picnic to be held
on July 26 at Cedarbrook Park,
and are hoping for a good at-
tendance.
The Lutheran Ladies' Aid of
Dashwood invited the society to a
picnic on Friday, July 10, the
ladies were asked to meet at the
church where transportation was
arranged.
It was decided to hold another
ham supper on August 12, with
group three in charge.
The meeting closed with the
praying of the Lord's Prayer.

Westlake Reunion
The 34th annual reunion of the
Penhale-Snowden-Westiake famil-
ies was held in Clan Gregor Squ-
are, Bayfield. 65 members were
present.
Alfred Hudie, president was in
charge. Officers elected for 1960
are: president, Russell Grainger;
vice-president, Thomas Westlake;
secretary -treasurer, Mrs. E. A.
Westlake; assistant secretary -
treasurer, Mrs, John Keys; sports
committee, Elizabeth Grainger and
William Pollock.
The prize for the longest mar-
ried couple went to Mr. and Mrs,
James Barnes, London, (53 years);
the largest family, Mrs. Logan
Cleave; the youngest girl, Cath-
ryn Grainger; the youngest boy,
David Keys; birthday nearest pic-
nic, Jane and Wayne Hamilton
(twins), Varna; lucky ticket, Wen-
dy and Michael Greer.
The evening was spent in sports
under the direction of Mr. and
Mrs. Ed. Sowerby and Mr. and
Mrs. Milton Pollock.

Attend Morenz
Family Reunion
The Morenz reunion was held
in Mitchell Recreational Park
with approximately 130 attending.
A nice time was spent by all, with
games and races conducted by Mr.
and Mrs. Floyd Clark, of Mitchell.
The oldest lady present was
Mrs. Louise Morenz, of Mitchell.
The youngest baby was Valerie
Lacroix, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Phil Lacroix, St. Marys. Mr. Ken
Kauffman, Breslau, came the far-
thest distance and Mr. and Mrs.
William Jeffrey, RR 2, Stratford,
received the prize for the largest
family. The reunion for 1960 is
to be held the first Sunday in
July at Riverview Park, Exeter.
Officers elected were as follows:
president, William Stephen; secre-
tary, Mrs. Jack Corbett; treasurer,
Arthur Morenz; lunch committee,
Mrs. John Heckman, Mrs. Hugh
Morenz, Mrs. Roy Morenz and Mrs.
Leslie Adams; sports committee,
Phil Lacroix. Lorne Wolfe, Ross
Corbett and Connie Corbett.

JULY 1919
Mr, H. Datars erected a neat
garage on his premises.
Among those who attended the
funeral of the late Mr. J. C.
Kalbfleisch were Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Kalbfleisch, Mr. and Mrs.
George Kalbfleisch, and Mr. and
Mrs. Adolph Kalbfleisch, all of
Detroit.
Mr. Lloyd Kalbfleisch, a student
at Waterloo College and Theolog-
ical Seminary was successful in
obtaining the Laury Scholarship,
which was awarded to the student
obtaining the highest percentage
at the final exams.
Mr. W. L. Siebert has been ap-
pointed a Justice of the Peace, by
the Provincial Government.
The Field Sports held recently
on the fair grounds were a decid-
ed success. A good program of
sports was put on and the large
crowd was deeply interested in
every event. The revival of the
good old sports is a move in the
right direction and when Mr. Fritz
holds another evening of sports
he will have a still Iarger crowd.
The matched foot race between
S. Hey and M. McDougall was
won by the latter and Mr. Deck-
er's horse won the horse race, The
half mile foot race was won by
Clarence Hoffman.
25 YEARS AGO
JULY 1934
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Ehnes of
Detroit spent the weekend at the
Williams home.
An aeroplane passed directly
over the village on Monday in an
easterly direction. And while these
large birds can skim through the
air, yet there is a considerable
noise accompanying them. If some-
one could invent a noiseless engine
it would be a great improvement
for these bird like machines.
The many friends of Mr. William
O'Brien are pleased to learn he is
improving nicely from his recent
operation in London hospital, and
was able to return home Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Tecl Wagner,
Guelph, were visitors with the
former's parents, Mr. and Mrs
W. C. Wagner.
Mr. Arthur Edighoffer of town
has purchased from Mr. John
Gellman his fine dwelling property
together with the three acres of
land. We understand that Mr. and
Mrs. Gillman will vacate the prop-
erty and leave Zurich, going to
Detroit to reside.
Professor Alvin Surerus of To-
ronto spent the weekend at the
old home on the Bronson Line.
Mr. Clayton Hoffman, principal
in one of the Galt schools, is
spending his holidays with his
parents here.

JULY 1944
Miss Mary Merner, of Elmira,
is spending a week's vacation at
the home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Merner.
Sergeant Leonard Zirk, who is
in the armed services, has return-
ed to the home of his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Chris Zirk, Bronson
Line, for a month's furlough.
The very sad news was received
here of the passing of Mr. Samuel
E. Faust, of Mitchell, a former
well-known business man of Zur-
ich.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Coxon, of
Milverton, were Sunday guests at
the home of their son, Dr. and
Mrs. W. B. Coxon.
Dr. B. A. Campbell, a former
practitioner of Zurich, called on
old friends in town on Saturday
evening.
Pte. Norman Fleischauer, of the
maintenance staff at Camp Bor-
den, is spending a few days with
his family here.
Little Charline Scotchmer, dau-
ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Scotchmer, Bayfield, is suffering
from bruises and shock as a re-
sult of a mishap last Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Tyrus Stanbury,
of Detroit, are spending a week's
vacation with the latter's parents
on the Bluewater Highway.
Mrs. Mabel Snider, of Sarnia, is
visiting with relatives here.

JULY 1949
A daughter was born to Mr. and
Mrs. Ed Kaufman (nee Mildred
Haberer) at St. Michael's Hospi-
tal in Toronto.
Misses Sheila Schilbe and Mary
Jane Howald are attending the
Lutheran Girls' Camp at Edge-
wood Park, near Guelph.
Mr. Bruce Eichmeier, of town,
who is enrolled in the Faculty of
Dentistry at the University of
Toronto, has been successful in
passing all his examinations with
a class standing of 15 in a class
of 74.
Members of the local Lions Club
who are attending the convention
in New York City are: secretary
Bill Siebert, president George
Deichert, and past president Theo-
dore Haberer.
There passed away at the Gen-
eral Hospital in Toronto. Herbert
Krueger, a prominent Zurich busi-
nessman, in his 56th year. He
was a barber by trade.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Siernon,
London, and Mrs. Siemon's sister,
Mrs. J. Cantelon, of Lucan, who
are camping on Lake Huron, cal-
led on friends in town on Monday
