The board of Clinton District
Collegiate Institute has received
approval from the Ontario Depart-
ment of Education to go ahead
with having plans and specifica-
tions drawn up for the addition to
the school..

Two new teachers have been
hired: R. St. John, Sarnia and
R. R. Williams, Toronto,
Present teachers on the staff
have each received salary increas-
es, none lower that $800 per year,
and in some instances the increase
has been $1,300 per year. There
are 20 teachers on staff.
The board has purchased part
of a lot from Cameron Proctor,
measuring 100 feet by 100 feet,
in order to extend the garden
area. The new addition will go on
the present garden site.

Family Holds 44th
Anniversary For
Houston Couple
At the home of Mr. and Mrs,
Vernon Oesch, at Blake, Mrs. Roy
Allin and Mrs. Vernon Oesch en-
tertained about 25 friends in hon-
our of the 44th wedding anniver-
sary of their parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Houston, Goderich, for-
merly of Stanley Township, last
Tuesday evening.
Progressive euchre was enjoyed
by the group, with the following
winners: ladies high, Mrs. Ernie
Featherston, Bayfield; ladies low,
Mrs. Len Talbot; gentleman's
high, Percy Weston and gentle-
man's low, Forie McClure. A
copper contest was also enjoyed,
with the person guessing the clos-
est number being Thomas West-
lake.
Harvey Coleman, reeve of Stan-
ley Township, expressed congratu-
lations and best wishes to the
bride and groom of 44 years ago.
They were presented with many
lovely and useful gifts.
Mr. Houston expressed apprecia-
tion for the honour accorded
them, and Mrs. Houston thanked
everyone for the lovely gifts given
to them.
Mr. and Mrs. Houston have two
daughters: Mrs. Roy (Beatrice)
Allin, Colborne Township, and Mrs.
Vernon (Madge) Oesch, Stanley.
There are also two grandchildren.

22nd Brokenshire
eunion at Exeter
The 22nd Brokenshire reunion
was held Sunday, June 14, in
Riverview Park, Exeter, with 65 in
attendance.
Attending the reunion were Mrs.
Eliza Sims, nee Brokenshire, of
Exeter, who this year celebrated
her 95th birthday, also Mr. Mark
Brokenshire of Dashwood. They
are the only surviving members
of the original Brokenshire fam-
ily.
Other members of the clan were
present from Hamilton, St. Thom-
as, London. Atwood, Lucan, Grand
Bend, Crediton, Dashwood and
Zurich.
The sports committee entertain-
ed both old and young with games
and contests.
The officers for 1959-60 were
elected with H. W. Brokenshire,
Zurich, named as president and
Mrs. H. W. Brokenshire as secre-
tary -treasurer. Table committee
includes Mrs. Lorne Lucas, At-
wood, Mrs. H. F. Hill, Hamilton,
and Mrs. Charles George, London;
sports committee, Mr. and Mrs.
James Wilson, Exeter, and Mrs.
William George, London.

June 27, 1919
Mr. W. L. Siebert, postmaster,
is the proud owner of three pheas-
ant chicks.
Mr. J. Preeter has exchanged
his Gray -Dort for a Baby Grand
Chevrolet touring car.
The marriage took place in St.
Boniface Church, Zurich, of And-
rew C. Luntz and Antonette Fost-
er, with Father A. M. Stoeder per-
forming the ceremonies.
Mr. and Mrs. George Clausius
and daughter attended the funeral
of the former's sister, Mrs. Buch-
oltz, in Seaforth, this past Sat-
urday.
Be sure to attend the Field
Sports at the Fairgrounds this
Friday. An added attraction will
be a matched horse race between
horses owned by John Decker Sr.
and Mr. Eberhardt, of Stanley.
Mr. C. Walper and Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Gellman motored to London
last Friday. Mrs. Gellman will
visit with her sister in that city
for a time.
Mr. Alvin Surerus, son of Mrs.
Gertrude Surerus, of the Bronson
Line, returned home from overseas
last Thursday evening. He has
been on active service in France
for some years.

June 28, 1934
Mr. and Mrs. A. Aulerich of
Detroit, were visitors with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs, L. Prang.
Mr. Borden Merner of London
is holidaying with his uncle, Mr.
and Mrs. J. W. Merner of town.
Mr. Sol Baechler of the Bronson
Line is attending a Mennonite
conference in Kitchener this week.
A quiet and pretty wedding took
Place last Saturday in Brucefield,
when Laura Boynton, eldest dau-
ghter of Mr. and Mrs. George
Swan, Brucefield, was united in
marriage to Ervin Conrad Schilbe,
youngest son of Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Schilbe, of Zurich.
Mr. William O'Brien of town,
was taken to hospital in London
on Monday and on Tuesday was
operated on. Pleased to state that
the patient is recovering nicely.
Mr. William Lamont and Jane,
Mr. and Mrs. L. Hoffman and
Marjorie were Sunday visitors in
Forest with Mr. and Mrs. William
Braun and family.

June 29, 1944
Private Charles Thiel, of an
eastern port, is visiting with his
wife and daughter here.
Misses Jean Krueger, Arv]s.
Haberer, and Patricia O'Dwyer,
all of Oakwood, enjoyed Tuesday
at the home of their parents,
Paul A. Hess, B.A., son of Mr.
and Mrs. Andrew F. Hess, Zurich,
was called to the bar on June 15,
as Barrister and Solicitor of the
Supreme Court of Ontario, and
will be associated with a law firm
in Toronto.
Highway No. 83, known as the
Zurich Road, is receiving its bap-
tism of tar these days, which will
greatly settle the dust and help
wear longer.
Miss Alpha Meyers, nurse -in -
training at Stratford General Hos-
pital, enjoyed a few days holidays
at the home of her parents, Mr -
and Mrs. Thomas Meyers, last
week.
The many friends of Mr. Fred C
Kalbfleisch will be pleased to learn
that he is slowly improving, and is
able to take a short stroll out of
the house.
Charles Hay, of the Army Ser-
vices, has returned to his duties
after a furlough of several days
at the home of his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. William Hay.

June 23, 1949
Dr. P. J. O'Dwyer and family
are spending a few days in the
Parry Sound district, in the cot-
tage owned by Mr. Ward Fritz.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Wurm, Hen -
sail, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Schilbe of the 14th concession, left
on a motor trip to the Western
Provinces.
Congratulations go to Miss Mar-
jorie Klapp, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Bert Klopp, who was success-
ful in winning the Robert Simpson
Scholarship at the Western Ont-
ario University in London.
Mr. George Thiel had an opera-
tion performed on his eye at St.
Joseph's Hospital last Tuesday
and is progressing as well as can
be expected.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Siemon,
London, were weekend visitors
with friends here.
Beginning with next Sunday the
evening preaching in the Evangel-
ical U.B. Church will be withdrawn
for the summer season.
Mrs. Charles Weber of town:
celebrated her 80th birthday last
Friday, with showers of greeting
cards from friends along with
flowers and gifts.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmore Thiel of
town left on Monday for a tour
of the Western Provinces, and a
visit to Saskatchewan.
