(Citizens News Photo) Chamber of Commerce To Honour Peewee =F iockey Te:,;, m Next Thursday a At the last regular meeting of the season for Zurich and District Chamber of Commerce held in the Dominion Hotel last Thursday night, it was decided to hold a special night for the Peewee hock- ey team, on Thursday, July 2, at Cedarbrook Park. At that time the presentation of the Robin Hood trophy for the most valuable mem- ber of the hockey team, will be presented. All members of the team, as well as the members of the Chamber are invited to attend. The Chamber of Commerce will again sponsor a Baby Show at the Zurich Fall Fair this year. More particulars will be decided at a meeting of the executive of the organization. A discussion took place at the meeting in regards to the work which was supposed to have been done at the hill at St. Joseph, by the Townsip council. A delegation of Charles Thiel, Albert Kalbfleis- ch, and William Siebert was pick- ed to attend the next meeting of the Township council and see what their plans are in this regards. Several members of the council were present at the meeting. Gordon Block was appointed to contact Charles MacNaughton, MLA, for Huron, in connection with having the edges of the streets going through the village sprayed with tar. The work was apparently to have been done some time ago, but was held up due to drain work which was to have been done. Charles Thiel, .chairman of the bingo committee reported that $265 had beencleared from the cash bingos which were held in the Community Centre this past spring. Besides raising this much money for community betterment the Chamber helped the arena out considerably, giving them about $200 in rental for the use of the building. Herb Turkheim and Earl Thiel were appointed as a delegation to approach the village trustees in re- gards to their membership in the Mid -Western Ontario Development Association. The membership was dropped by the trustees some time ago with the idea the association Strawberry Social Dashwood Tonight. The Ladies Aid of the Dash- wood Evangelical U13 Church will be sponsoring a ham and strawberry supper in their church basement tonight, Wednesday. Supper will be served from five to eight -thirty, and the ladies claim they will give ev- eryone all they want to eat. was not doing Zurich any good. However, it was the feeling of the Chamber of Commerce that there is a certain amount of benefit to be derived from belonging to the association. Zurich and Clinton are the only members from the County of Huron which have drop- ped out of the organization. A guest at the meeting was Ed. Kinsmen, St. Marys, a former member of the staff of the local Bank of Montreal. Vice -resident Charles Thiel was in charge of the meeting in the ab- sence of president Milton Oesch. 0 School Area sroard Sets 13 Mill Rate, Old School Sold At a meeting of the Hay Town- ship School Area Board last Wed- nesday night, the Township school area rate was set at 13 mills for the year. The board agreed to purchase an automatic steam iron for the Home Economics department of the Zurich school. Tenders were opened for the purchase of the building known as SS 6, on the Babylon Line, east of Zurich. The offer of Morris Web- er, Zurich, to buy the old building for $127 was accepted. A report was given at the meet- ing that all the teachers in the area had renewed their contracts for the coming term. Women's Institute Last Tuesday afternoon mem- bers of the Zurich Women's Insti- tute visited the Huron County Museum and the Court House in Goderich. A most enjoyable time was reported by all those who at- tended. ensall Yo. th Hits Parked Car Dere; s Charged With Careless riving Newspaper Office Now Located In Print Shop Bldg. Effective this Thursday, June 25, the office of the Zu- rich Citizens News will be loc- ated in the former Zurich Her- ald building, on Victoria St- reet, next to the telephone office. C o n s i d erable renovations have been made to the front part of the building, including the installation of a large display window. The office has been re -decorated, and a new counter installed. For the convenience df the public there is a letter slot in the front door where persons can drop in any news they might have. Everyone is in- vited to drop into the new of- fice and look around. According to OPP Constable Hank Reid, of the Exeter detach- ment, a charge of careless driving has been laid against Beverley Taylor, Hensall, who on Saturday evening struck a parked car in. Zurich, and kept right on going. Taylor was followed by a prom- inent local businessman, Gerald Gingerich, who caught up to him in Hensall and brought him back to the scene of the accid'ent.. The parked vehicle belonged to Harry Hartleib, London, who was - having dinner in the Dominion. Hotel. His ear was parked in front of the building. Persons who saw the accident occur, claimed the Taylor car came from the south and was heading east when it bit the parked car. Damage to the two vehicles a- mounted to several hundred dol- lars. Constable Reid investigated the case. Township Council Is Taking r'''ron.pt Action On Lake Road at St. Joseph At a special meeting of the Hay the bank from washing away. First plans had been star- ted last fall ,but at the time it was felt that the work should be left until spring. There has been con- siderable agitation to get the ball rolling to develop this approach to the lake, one of the few left in the Township, and the news that ac- tion is now being taken will be welcomed by many. At the special meeting plans were reviewed for the work to be done on the drain in the main sec- tion of Zurich, running from the Dominion Hotel east. Work is to be started on this drain in the very near future. o- Mrs. M, Geiger in Sarnia Hospital After Car Accident The condition of Mrs, M. Geiger, who was injured in an automobile accident near Sarnia on Sunday night, is reported to be much im- proved. She is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, Sarnia. Mrs, Geiger was a passenger ins a car driven by Irwin Eckstein. Dashwood, which was travelling west on No. 7 highway and pre- paring to turn north onto No. 21. highway when it collided with an- other coming from the east, The Eckstein car spun into a third ve- hicle following the impact, but there were no further injuries, Also injured and in the hospital' at Sarnia is Mrs. Eckstein, with injuries to her head, right wrist and left elbow. Mrs. Geiger suf- fered head injuries. The driver, Mr. Eckstein, was: injured slightly but not hospital- ized, as was a grandson of Mrs,. Geiger, Larry McClinchey. They were both able to come home. The passengers in the other car involved were all taken to the hos- pital as well.
