agreed that some attraction must
be introduced that would lure the
tourist off the highway and
through their town.
From this beginning Santa's Vil-
lage was born. It was opened on
May 24, 1955, by Premier Frost
and Marilyn Bell. Since then it
has entertained some 45,000 adults
a year and an equal number of
children.
The setting of the little village
is ideal. The road leading to the
village is itself an enchanting
drive of about three miles, follow-
ing the windings of a gentle river

Soon hundreds of cars will be
seen crowding the highways—all
heading north to Canada's play-
ground in the Muskoka Lakes.
Should your car be among them,
plan to arrive at Bracebridge a-

a whole afternoon with Santa in
Santa's Village. The children will
love it and you, yourself, will en-

Santa is his usual jolly self,
laughing heartily in spite of the
perspiration streaming down his
face and into his long white beard.
He poses with children in front
of his house for an endless line
of tourists. The children like to
have their pictures taken sitting
in Santa's own sleigh or feeding
Santa's reindeer as they gambol
about in the shade of their wood-
land pasture.
Then lest the children forget
that Santa is not the most import-
ant feature of Christmas, even in
Santa's own village, you should
visit the tiny chapel, large enough
for a congregation of twelve. Here
the Christmas carols chime end-
lessly over the Nativity scene,
while above it all the chapel bell
tolls slowly and reverently.
You will find an afternoon
crew to only three hits. Buster

The Mitchell Lincolns defeated
the Dashwood Tigers by the score
of 4-3 in Dashwood last Wednes-
day night. Errors proved to be
costly for the Tigers as they bob-
bled six times throughout the eight
inning contest.
Don McKellar started on the
mound for Dashwood, and was re-
placed in the third inning by Steve
Mitro. Between the two pitchers
they held the powerful Mitchell
at Santa's Village will be an aft-
ernoon much enjoyed and long re-

This novel little village was the
brain -child of four Bracebridge
businessmen. On New Year's night,
1953, Clarence H. Green, now
president and manager, and three
friends discussed the new highway
over a bridge game. This new ex-
tension of Highway 11 from To-
ronto into the north country was
to bypass Bracebridge. It was
side of the town away from the
busy highway to encourage people
to drive through Bracebridge.
The youngsters from Brace -
bridge High School get summer
employment by putting on the
costumes and character of story
book people. Robin Hood' may ex-
plain the fine points of archery to
your son, while you give Cinderel-

be delivered next Christmas. Tea
is served in Alice's Tea Room by
girls dressed like Alice herself.
The choice of gifts is much more
