Reeve Coleman reports that the
school building at USS 1, located
half mile east of Drysdale and
the Blue Water Highway, has been
closed for 12 to 15 years. Most
residents in the section are separ-
ate school supporters.
One suggestion is that USS 1
join the School Area of the town-
ship. At present there are five
schools in the Area. One more
would make the Area eligible for
an additional $3,000 grant.
• The Township Council made
grants to the Clinton and Hensall
Spring Shows of $25 each.

Planning $160,000
Addition to School
Members of South Huron Dist-
rict High School decided last Tues-
day night to ask seven municipal-
ities in the district to approve a
proposed $160,000 addition.
The extension will include two
classrooms, one laboratory, one
shop and one cafeteria. Existing
cafeteria will be remodelled into
two classrooms.
With these facilities, the board
proposes to offer limited techni-
cal training courses for boys and
extended cornmercial course to
girls.
Board members felt this trend
toward practical education would
meet with general approval
throughout the district. Through
it, boys will be able to specialize
in manual training for two
years, then transfer to a more ad-
vanced technical school in London,
if they wish.
The new commercial facilities
would allow four years' training
in this subject.
"The existing cafeteria will be
remodelled and become two class-
rooms. When the project is
completed the entire school will
offer normal accommodation for
770 pupils.
"The estimated cost of the
project including building con-
tract, architect's fees, furniture
and equipment may be taken
roughly at $160,000.00.
"Legislative grant for approved
facilities will be on an amount
up to but not in excess of $125,000.
This is the maximum amount upon
which the board's percentage for
grants will apply. This percentage
is not guaranteed but may be var-
ied by the grant regulations from
year to year."
Seven municipalities concerned
include Exeter, Grand Berid, Hay,
Hensall, Stephen, Usborne and a
portion of Tuckersmith.
The board proposes to use the
new cafeteria as a second gym-
nasium in order to provide ac-
commodation for physical training
which is not now adequate.
Some concern was expressed at
Tuesday's meeting over the drop
in the number of students using
the cafeteria. When the price
was increased to 35 cents after
Easter, number of meals served
dropped from around 300 to half
that amount.
Quite a few students bring their
own lunches but an increasing
number go down to purchase meals
from the restaurant. Members
weren't happy about this situation
since they suspect the students are
buying confectionery instead of
wholesome food.
One member suggested the
board might adopt a policy similar
to another school which forbids
students from leaving the grounds.

respecting the low-lying lands of
the township. The council decided
to study the proposed plans,
General accounts amounting to
$125.35 were passed as were the
township road vouchers.

the exception of Councillor Ed.
Gil.

free. The church will celebrate its
fourth anniversary on June 17.
Last year a fund-raising scheine

to paying off the church debt.
Plans are now under way to
building next year.

son will also contact the PUC with
the request for an additional light
