MRS. CAROLINE PRICE, formerly of Zurich, and
presently staying in St. Marys Hospital, London, celebrat-
ed her 97th birthday on May 10. With her in this photo
are her only great -great grandchildren, Randy, son of Mr.
and Mrs. James Weido, and Teri, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. William Weido; and their grandmother, Mrs. Percy
Weido, all of Kitchener. Mrs. Price still enjoys reading
her Zurich Citizens News every week.
Huron Perth Baseball Schedule
Dashwood Starts .ere Friday
At a meeting of league represen-
tatives of Huron -Perth Baseball
league in Mitchell on Friday night
the schedule for the coming season
was drawn up. While it had ear-
lier been planned on to have nine
teams in the league, only six of
them were present to have the
schedule arranged, and so only six
are in the league.
The game scheduled for Zurich
this past Saturday with the Walk-
erton Capitals had to be called off
due to wet grounds, and so the
first game for the locals will be in
Zurich this coming Friday night,
May 29, at 6.30, with the Dash-
wood Tigers.

noon the members of the Zurich
Lions Club will be conducting a
Car Wash 'in front of the fire
hall. For the price of one dol-
lar the Lions will completely
clean your car, inside and out.
Besides getting good value for
your money you can assist the
Lions Club in their service work
by having them wash your car.
Twelve Interested Members Enrol In
Zurich Calf Club; Keith Rader, Pres.
Twelve young people enrolled in
the Zurich 4-H Calf Club at an or-
ganizational meeting in the Town
Hall on Monday night. President
of the group is Keith Rader, vice-
president, Robert Becker, secre-
tary -treasurer, Gail McBride, and
press reporter, Bob Hoffman.

"Education" Topic For Lions Club
School Inspector Discusses Subject
Glen Gardiner, inspector of
public schools for Central Huron,
was the guest speaker at the din-
ner meeting of the Zurich Lions
Club, held in the Dominion Hotel
last Wednesday night. He spoke
on "Education in Lionism."
"The two main factors in educa-
tion today," said Mr. Gardiner, "is
that it is meant for everyone, and

Attend Meeting
Mrs. Bryce Mack and Mrs. Don-
ald Oke attended a meeting for the
purpose of forming a Foundation
for the Study of Cystic Fibrosis.
The meeting was held this past
Saturday at Toronto, in the lec-
ture room of the Sick Children's
hospital. The ladies accompanied
Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Ivey, London.

Buys Print Shop

Effective Monday, June 1,
1959, the office building and job
printing plant owned by Mr, and
Mrs. Chester L. Smith, becomes
the property of A. L. Colquhoun,
Clinton, publisher of the Zurfeh
Citizens News.
The Citizens News will con-
tinue as now established, and as
soon as possible, business man-
ager Herb Turkheim intends
moving his office into the form-
er Zurich Herald Office.
A qualified printer will soon
be added to the Citizens News
staff, who will live in Zurich and
operate the job printing plant.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith published
the. Zurich Herald for 44 years,
until selling the paper at Jan-
uary 1, 1958. Since then Mr,
Smith has continued the job
printing shop, Mrs. Smith has
been reporter for the Zurich
page in the Exeter Time -Advo-
cate, a position from which she
has recently resigned.
Receives Degree

have changed in the past years,
how they are much more modern
now than they were years ago.
"Most trouble arises in school
through misunderstanding," went
on the speaker, "a misunderstan-
ding between the children and the
teacher and between the parents
and the teacher."
Mr. Gardiner added that there
is more written about education
today than there is about any
other thing, except agriculture.
"The three main topics of discus-
sion are expenditures, passing the
buck, and criticism of the modern
pupil." In connection with rising
expenses the inspector pointed out
how statistics prove that on an av-
erage, $90 is spent on alcohol and
tobacco to every $60 spent on ed-
ucation.
"The main object of schools noNA
is to produce the best possible
citizens for the country. Members
of all Lions Clubs should be part-
ners in furthering the cause of
education," concluded the speak-
er.
Mr. Gardiner, who is a past pres-
ident of the Goderich Lions Club,
was introduced by Lion Victor
Dinnin, and thanked by Lion Bob
McKinley.
Milfred Schilbe, Ed Datars and
Herb Turkheim were appointed as
a committee to investigate the
possibility of arranging a bus trip
to Windsor to attend the conven-
tion of the Lions Clubs of Canada,
in the motor city.
Bob McKinley explained the
plans for the Zone Rally of Lions
Club which is being held in Zur-
ich, on Wednesday, May 27. Com-
mittees were appointed for various
jobs in connection with the rally,
which is expected to attract be-
tween 150 and 200 Lions.
As a result of an election held,
the following will make up the
executive of the Zurich Club for
the coming year; past president,
Delbert Geiger; president, Lloyd
O'Brien; first vice-president, Herb
Turkheim; second vice-president,
Milfred Schilbe; third vice-presi-
dent, Alvin Walper; Lion tamer,
Don O'Brien, tail twister, Edwin
Gascho; secretary, Leroy Thiel, as-
sistant, Ed Datars; treasurer, Jake
Haberer; directors for one year,
Jack Pearson, Ken Parke; direc-
tors for two years, Don Oke, Nap
Corriveau.

Mrs. Jean Elliott
conducted the meeting. Previous-
ly a meeting had been held and
only one or two youths showed
up, but this time plenty of enthus-
iasm was shown by all present.
Mr. Rose explained the various
rules and regulations in regards
to being a 4-H member, and gave
the necessary literature to each
person present. Much of the cred-
it for the organization of the Club
goes to Bert Klapp, manager of
the local Co -Op, who has worked
hard to interest the young people
in the project.
The members who enrolled at
the meeting are: Keith Rader, RR
3, Zurich; Raymond, Norman, and
Audrey Eckel, RR 1, Varna; Larry
Merner, RR 3, Zurich; Robert and
Charles Becker, Dashwood, Bob
Hoffman, Dashwood, Larry Wein,
Dashwood; Ron and Gerald Thiel,
RR 2, Zurich, and Gail McBride,
RR 1, Zurich.
Club leaders are Anson McKin-
ley, RR 1, Zurich, Herb Kloop,
RR 3, Zurich, and Carl Oestreich-
er, RR 1, Dashwood.
Several parents of the children
also attended the meeting.

School, will receive his Bach-
elor of Arts degree from As-
sumption University of Windsor
at the llth convocation on May
30.

Officers at Varna
New Stanley Clerk
Mrs. Jean Elliott, Varna, has
been appointed secretary -treasurer
of the Township of Stanley. The
wife of Harold Elliott, she lives on
the first farm west of the village.
Mrs. Elliott's application was
one of eight received by the coun-
cil of the township, for a position
made available through the resig-
nation of Fred Watson, Bayfield.
Decision to hire Mrs. Elliott was
reached on Friday evening, May
22, at a meeting of council, head-
ed by Reeve Harvey Coleman.
Close to 150 representatives of
the municipalities in Huron C-'0un-
ty attended the annual meeting of
the Huron County Municipal Of-
ficers Association, held in Varna,
on Tuesday afternoon.
The morning sessions got under'
way with remarks from the chair-
man, George Martin, Morris Town-
ship. An official welcome to the
meeeting was extended all the
delegates by Reeve Harvey Cole-
man, of Stanley Township, whose
group were hosts for the day.
W. R. Jewitt, warden of the
county, brought greetings from the
county.
Two representatives of the de-
partment of municipal affairs ex-
plained changes in the assessment
acts.
Special recognition was paid to
two retiring township clerks, H.
Sturdy, of Goderich Township,
and Fred Watson, Stanley Town-
ship.
After the dinner, which was ser-
ved by the ladies of the Varna Un-
ited Church, Constable Bob Lewis
showed the group films on civil de-
fence.

Huron county, gave an outline of
work carried on by his department
throughout the year.

Bridal Shower
A miscellaneous shower will be
held in honour of Miss Marion Re-
gier, bride -elect of this Saturday,
in the Town Hall on Thursday
night. All relatives ,freinds and
neighbours are invited to attend.
