HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1959-05-20, Page 3WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 1959 Grannie Turkheim's Recipe Box RHUBARB PIE 3 cups cut rhubarb 1% cups sugar 3 level teaspoons flour % teaspoon nutmeg 1 teaspoon butter Mix these together and then add: 2 beaten eggs. Mix and put in unbaked pie shell, bake in 700 degree oven for 20 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees until silver knife comes out clean. RAGGED ROBIN 3 cups corn flakes 1 lb. dates (cut small) 1 small bottle maraschino cherries. ZURICH Citizens NEWS 3 lb, blanched almonds (chopped) % cup fruit sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla % teaspoon salt 2 egg whites. Beat egg whites stiff, add sugar gradually, then last of ingredients. Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet, bake in moderate oven until light brown. PINEAPPLE SALAD Use 20 oz. can crushed pineapple. PAGE THREE Heat 1 cup pineapple juice with % cup sugar and 1 tablespoon vinegar. Pour over 1 package lime jello. When partly cool add 2 small cream cheese, softened with one cup thin cream, Add one cup sh- redded pineapple and 1/2 cup nut meats. Put in refrigerator in shal- low pan, until set. To serve, cut in squares and serve on lettuce with salad dress- ing. Zurich W.I. Fifteen members and 43 guests attended the meeting of the Zu- rich Women's Institute in the Town Hall last Thursday night. Pictures of Africa were shown the group by Mr. and Mrs. C. Matthews, Grand Bend. At the pictures were shown by Mr, Matthews an explanation was given by Mrs. Matthews. All the films were taken by the couple. Charlie MacNaughton Works For Huron In just one silting, Charlie MacNaughton has established himself as an effective speaker on behalf of agriculture. His efforts on the agriculture committee have led to important benefits to farmers. ON AGRICULTURE BRIEFS— On being criticitzed in the House for commending the Farmers' Union delegation for presenta- tions made to the Agriculture Committee, the Huron MPP re- plied: "What is good in this brief or any other brief, 1 propose to sup- port both inside and outside the House and 1 can assure the Hon. member that certain of these sug- gestions and recommendations have already been implemented and I am confident that those that merit attention and considera- tion will receive it in due course." —Hansard Page 1392 RE-ELECT ON GASOLINE TAX— I believe that the matter of hastening rebates of gasoline tax to farmers could well be consid- ered and implemented at the earl- iest possible time." —Hansard Page 1392 ON FARM ECONOMY— "The farmer finds himself faced with costs of the goods and ser- vices he must buy increasing at a considerably faster pace than the prices obtainable for what he pro- duces for sale. Nevertheless it must be admitted that the farmer is faced with the necessity of developing some means of combating matters col- lectively over which individually he has little or no control." —Hansard, Page 489 Charlie MacNaughton moved in the standing committee on agriculture that the Government undertake to provide compensation for Toss of Iiveitock through rabies.
