St. 'art's, Newest Entry In Hnron-
erth Intermediate Baseball League
At a Huron -Perth League base-
ball meeting held in Mitchell on
Monday night a fourth team, St.
Marys, indicated their willingness
to play with the three other teams
already entered. This will assure
the league of at least a four team
grouping, since Dashwood, Mitch-
ell, and Zurich have already enter-
ed for the coming season.
There is also a strong possibility
that three or four teams from the
north will play an interlocking
schedule with the four Huron -Per-
th teams. A meeting will be held
in Wingham next Wednesday
night, which will be attended by
representatives from this league,
to determine what teams would
be interested in the proposed idea.
The new entry from St. Marys
will be sponsored by the Canadian
Legion branch in the stone town.
Probable manager of the team will
be Via Noble, who should be well
remembered by most older ball
fans in this district.
A fifth team has also indicated
their interest in joining the Huron -
Perth league. According to league
president Bob Sadler, he has been
in contact with Lucan, and they
gave him to understand if they
could secure the services of a pit-

cher they would definitely consid-
er entering a team.
A meeting will be held in Mitch-
ell again next Friday night, at
which time ail teams will have to
know definitely if they are going
to play or not. At that time the
schedule for the coming season
will be drawn up. The first game
will likely be played in Mitchell
this year, providing they can in-
terest a team in playing them on
their diamond on the Monday, May
18, holiday.
All indications are that a real
good season of baseball is in store
for all fans throughout the district.

Deer Season Set
At Parry Sound.
In the Parry Sound, Haliburton,
Renfrew area south of the French
and Mattawa Rivers, residents and
non-residents of the province may
hunt deer from November 9 to
November 21 in 1959, Ontario
Lands and Forests Minister the
Hon. J. W. Spooner has announced.
Open seasons for the rest of the
province were announced earlier.
This season has prevailed for
several years and although the an-
nouncement is made much earlier
than has hitherto been the case it
is recognized that in certain types
of companies employees are cer-
tain to have already selected their
holiday period on the basis of last
year's regulations. The Depart-
ment of Lands and Forests would
hope that industries will do their
utmost in making adjustment of
holiday periods to help those who
may have been left with an un-
suitable holiday week because of
such a change.
