Huron -Perth Baseball Association Nov Headed By Robert Saddler Bob Sadler, popular Staffa ball player and a main cog in the Mit- chell Ball Club was chosen as the president of the Huron - Perth Baseball League at the annual meeting in Zurich last Wednesday night. He replaces Leroy O'Brien, Zurich, who has capably handled the position for the past three or four years. Other officers elected at the meeting were, first vice-president, Jim Hayter, Dashwood; second vice- president, Herb Turkheim, Zurich; and secretary -treasurer, John Livermore. Each team will have a representative to the leag- ue, as in previous years. Three teams which were repre- sented at the meeting, Dashwood, Mitchell, and Zurich, all indicated their readiness to field a team for the coming season. It was the feeling of the meeting that an all- out effort should be made to in- terest several new teams into the league this year. Mentioned as possible entries were Clinton, St. Marys and Luc - an. These towns will be contacted before the meeting to draw up a schedule is held in Mitchell on Monday, May 4. Another possiblity which was discussed was the chance of inter- esting several northern teams in playing an interlocking schedule with the Huron -Perth teams. It was felt that this would create new interest in baseball through- out both areas. Last year one team from the north, Listowel, played an interlocking schedule, and it worked out very well with all concerned. The Huron -Perth league will again be affiliated with the On- tario Baseball Association. While little was disclosed at the meeting as to the strength of the three returning teams it was re- vealed that the Mitchell Lincolns would have the services of Ray Yelle, former pro and last year manager of the London Majors. Dashwood, through the loss of Remi Wein and other stars, seems to be the worst off for player tal- ent. However, according to Joe Merner, the president of the team, they will make all the other teams sit up and take notice before -the season ends. 0 LENGTHY TRIP (Exeter Tunes -Advocate) A weather balloon which "must have travelled a heck of a long way in a short time," was found Friday by Hank Greene, game overseer, in the bush near the fourth concession of Hay, about a mile north of No. 83 highway. Information on the instrument revealed that it was released from Flint, Mich•, on April 18 and it was icked up by Greene at 10.30 a.m. the same day. A note on the box stated the balloon would rise 16 miles before bursting. Flint is approximately 100 miles west of here, across Lake Huron. The instrument box measured about seven inches wide and 10 in- ches deep.
