HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1959-04-15, Page 11WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 1959 ZURICH Citizens NEWS St. John Ambulance Group For Zurich If More Than 20 Persons Interested Providing at least 20 persons are interested, the Canadian Branch of St. John Ambulance will stage a first-aid training course in Zur- ich within the next couple of weeks. The course is open to both men and women, and is particular- ly recommended for hydro and telephone workers, factory work- ers, firemen, school teachers, and anyone connected with sports or young people. The St. John Ambulance first • aid course consists of a minimum of six two hour weekly instruction periods, equally divided into a one hour lecture and a one hour dem- onstration and practice session. The cost of the instruction pro- vided is only $3.00 per person for the complete course. The "Safety Consciousness" t h at develops i from taking this training also helps to prevent accidents from happening in the home, on the highway, and in the office and factory. You will be taught how to give artificial respiration to victims of drowning, electric shock, suffoca- tion and asphyxiation. You will also be shown how to treat a great variety of other less serious injur- ies like sprained ankles, bruises, bee stings, embedded fish-hooks, and poisoning. The mian object of the course is to show people how to treat injuries well enough to tide a victim over until a med- ical doctor can reach the scene. At the close of the course an ex- amination is conducted by a med- ical doctor, and successful stud- ents receive a certificate in first OBITUARY Albert II. Thiel After a lengthy illness, Albert H. Thiel passed away in Kitchen- er -Waterloo Hospital, on Friday, April 10, in his 64th year. He was an employee of B. F. Good- rich Canada, Ltd. Born in Zurich, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Thiel. He was a member of Cal- vary Memorial Evangelical Uni- ted Brethren Church, in Kitchen- er. aid care. Any persons who are interested in taking the course are asked to leave their names at either the Post Office or the Citizens News office as soon as possible. It is hoped to have enough applipants to start the course in about two weeks. The idea of the training course is being backed by the Zurich and District Chamber of Commerce. PAGE ELEVEN Surviving are his wife, the for- mer Elsie Riehm; three sons, Ro- bert, Richmond Hill; Donald, Cal- gary; and James Kitchener; two daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Ruth) Slobodzian, and Mrs. Donald (Carol) Manning, both of Kitch- ener; five brothers, Adam, Roy - croft, Alberta; Andrew, Toronto; John, Vancouver; Thomas, Edmon- ton, and Simon, Kitchener; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Hilde- brandt, Seaforth: Mrs. Edward Lossing, Detroit; and Mrs. Leslie Howey, Kitchener. One brother and a sister, Mrs. Peter Deichert, Zurich, predeceased him. There are also nine grand children. Funeral services were conduc- ted by Rev. J. H. Getz, of Calvary EUB Church, at the Ratz-Bechtel funeral home, on Monday after noon. Interment was made in Woodland Cemetery.
