involved. Of course we cannot
blame the youngsters for that, for
it is only natural for them to have
full liberty to roam about; and
further more they do not realize
the full importnace of education at
their tender age. They will need
a little encouragement to start
them off the first day and then it
will not be too long before they
adjust themselves to school routine
for another term. As usual on the
opening day, they were seen on
the march to school to resume
their studies.
• Under the guiding hands of skil-
ful teachers, starting from the
point they left off, they will await
with anxiety the summer holidays
to greet them.
BARTENDER FINED
(Exeter Times -Advocate)
Bartender at Hensall Legion,
Leonard Noakes, was fined $50
and costs in magistrate's court
Wednesday for contravening .the.
CTA.
The charge arose from testi-
many given last week at the in-
quest into the death of a Centra-
lia airman. Noakes admitted sel-
ling liquor to the airman and two
of his companions March 10 before
the fatality took place on No. 4
Highway.
The accused, who is employed
as caretaker and bartender at the
Legion quarters, pleaded guilty to
the charge.
At the inquest it was explained
that airmen are not members of
the Legion but belong to a group
which the Legion serves because
they curl in Hensall arena regu-
larly. "

new record, Young Canada Week
passed an historic milestone—the
500th game—Wednesday.
The puck from the game was
saved by "Nip" Whetstone to be
sent to Lorne Wakelin in 'New-
foundland. "Nip" and Lorne, a
former arena manager here, were
originators of the B -I -G -G -E -S -T

Only when they originated the
pee wee hockey tournament they
never dreamed it would expand on
the tremendous scale which it has.
The tourney started as a modest
affair 10 years ago,' with half a
dozen district teams playing each
other.
This year the internationally -
known tourney features 86 teams,
with 1,500 boys participating.
