ON HOUSECLEANING
Its funny how men hate house -
as
in,
cleaning time, in view of the fact
that it is the women who do all
the work, How they hate that
one night when the children's
furniture jammed into the bedroom
makes it necessary to climb over
the end of the bed, or when they
can't locate their favourite cush-
ion to tuck behind their backs as
they watch TV.
"Why do you have to tear every-
thing up ?" they protest. "Don't
you clean every week? Besides,
it doesn't look one bit different
to me when you are finished,"
You don't even attempt a reply
to this discouraging remark. You
know it is all too true. It really
doesn't look a great deal different
THE PRICE OF
GOOD LIVING
CANADIANS are still enjoying the world's second
highest standard of living.
They can do this because of the contribution
of manufacturing to our national progress and
prosperity.
Perhaps Canadians can buy some things cheaper
elsewhere than in Canada. But if they are not willing
to pay Canadian prices for Canadian products, our
own workers will not for long be able to receive
Canadian wages. Nor will Canadian governments
receive the tax revenues they require to sustain
Canada's welfare programmes.
There is a price to pay for everything, including
the Canadian standard of living.

when you are through cleaning.
Only you can know, that it is
clean behind the picture and un-
der the 'frig and the electric
stove. How could you explain to
a mere male that it "smells" dif-
ferent? I like to put a drop or
two of lysol in my wash -water
just to get that clean, hospital
odour. To me, this, combined with
that intangible sweetness that
seems to cling to drapes and bed-
ding freshly aired in the spring
sunlight, combined with furniture
polish and fresh wax, make a com-
bination which surpasses Chanel
No. 5.
Only another woman will under-
stand the satisfaction of kicking
off one's shoes, at the end of a
big day and leaning back in an
easy chair. Just to close one's
eyes and see those freshly lined
drawers with their neat piles of
sweaters and summer underwear
and know the winter ones are
safely packed away for another
year is salve for a tired back.
One of the things that make
housecleaning hardest is thinking
about it. Each year we think we
just can't live through it and each
year once we get into the swing,
we find it is not quite as bad as
we anticipated. So now, with
spring just around the corner, how
about it, girls ? Ready to roll up
your sleeves and dig in ?

THE GROWN-UP'S HOUR
Between the winter and summer
When the mercury is starting to
climb,
Comes a stir in the year's occupa-
tion
That is known as "House -Clean-
ing Time."
I roll up my sleeves with a fervor,
And round up the brushes and
brooms,
And out of the clouds of confusion
Emerge the immaculate rooms.
PAGE MUM
Oh, let me survey for a moment
The fruits of my labors, and then,
I'll give the house back to the
family,
To mess up all over again.

'TEEN TOPICS
You girls hate the word "house-
cleaning," almost as much as your
fathers do. Most of the year Mom.
keeps hands off as far as your
possessions go. Why it is that she
thinks she can sieve through your
drawers at house-cleaning time
you'll never understand, They
may look riled up to her, but you
know where you put everything
and that should be all that mat-
ters. If she throws out all your
Presley pictures and that fuschia
coloured lipstick this time, she can
just root around through the
waste -paper and find them again.
Well, there is a simple solution
to this problem, girls. Why not
suggest it yourself ? While she
washes the curtains, bedding, etc,,
you could go ahead washing the
windows, woodwork and floors
yourself. Of course, its best to
get suggestions as to the right
cleaning material to use, but the
method just boils down to using
the old arm muscles until every-
thing is clean.
"But it is my holiday," you
protest. True, you shouldn't be ex-
pected to spend it all this beauti-
ful spring weather inside helping
house -clean. But did you ever ask
yourself, "When does Mom get her
holidays ?"
