Zurichlucan Midget Series Tied Up;
Final Game In Lucan Thursday Night
After holding a two game lead in their best -of -five series
in the OMHA semi-final series with the Lucan Shamrocks, the
Zurich Lions Midgets have lost the next two games to see the
series all tied up at two games each. Last Wednesday night
in Lucan the Irish were victorious, with a third period rally,
by a score of 8-6, and on Friday night in Hensel]. the locals
suffered their worst defeat of the season, an 11-5 drubbing.
The fifth and final game in the series will be played in the
Lucan Arena to -morrow night (Thursday) at 8 p.m.
THIRD GAME
Coming from behind to score
four goals in nine minutes, the
Lucan Shamrock Midgets squeez-
ed out an 8-6 win over the Zurich
Lions Midgets in Lucan last Wed-
nesday night. It was the first
victory in the best -of -five series
for the Irish.
The Zurich team struck fast in
the first period to ring up a 3-0
lead before the Lucan team were
able to score. Penalties hampered
the efforts of the local boys as
they were given three of them
within two minutes of each other
in the first stanza. Throughout
the game they were assessed sev-
en penalties to four for the Lucan
team.
In the second period the teams
each scored twice, leaving the
count at 5-3 at the end of the
period. Eight minutes of the sec-
ond period were played with the
team being shorthanded, due to
penalties.
With the score 6-4 for Zurich
midway through the third period
the roof fell in for the locals as
the Irish banged in four quick
goals to take the lead.
For the homesters it was their
poorest showing of the season, as
they could not seem to get organ-
ized offensively or defensively.
Bob Johnston was top man for
Zurich, scoring three of his team's
six goals.
Close to 250 fans from the Zur-
ich district journeyed to Lucan to
cheer for their favourites.

FOURTH GAME
The Lucan Shamrocks swamped
the Zurich Lions Midgets 11-5 in
Hensall on Friday night, to even
their best -of -five series at two
games each. There was little for
the close to 500 Zurich fans to
cheer about, as the Irish racked
up a commanding 8-0 lead before
the locals could get on the score
sheet. The game was by far the
most dismal showing of the Zurich
team this season.
Injuries and sickness to four of
the locals hampered their efforts
to a great extent. Wayne Willert
was just recuperating from the
'flu, Earl Wagner was nursing a
badly bruised knee, Paul Weido
suffered back injuries, and Bob
Johnston had a badly bruised foot.
It is expected the team will be at
full strength for the all-important
tussle on Thursday night, with the
exception of Gerard Overholt, who
is out for the season with a brok-
en leg.
Earl Wagner and Larry Bedard
were top scorers for the Lions,
each banging in two goals. Woody
Weido notched the extra tally. For
Lucan, Hugh Conlin was the in-
dividual star, scoring four of his
team's goals.
The Shamrocks completely dom-
inated the play in the first two
periods, while they rang up their
eight goal lead. In the first 15
minute of the game Zurich had on-
ly three shots on the Lucan net.
Throughout the game they had
only about 15 shots on the oppos-
ing goal, five of which got by the
Irish netminder. A strong Lucan
defence, led by classy Paul Conlin,
kept their little goaltender, Bill
O'Neil, well protected.
Only in the third period, when
they scored four of their five
goals, did the locals resemble the
team which won the first two
games of the series.

Behind this door is a car! But this is more than just a car, it is a tradition. For fifty-eight years now, people have used
its name ... Buick ... as a synonym for excellence. Now, this car has excelled even itself. In pride and prestige,
in beauty and mechanical perfection it has surpassed every great thing its name has ever stood for.
Truly, Nineteen -Fifty -Nine is Buick's vintage year. A year in which one thing is certain .. .
better automobiles are being built ... and Buick is building them. Drive one ... ten minutes will tell.
