"No Limit to Mobile Industrial Units,"
Says Manager, General Coach Works
Development of an industrial
division at General Coach Works
of Canada Ltd. has not only intro-
duced the company's units into an
entirely new field, but it has also
paid dividends for the Hensall dis-
trict. It has meant that employ-
mentis no longer dependent on
the sale of mobile homes for which
the biggest demand exists in sum-
mer. Demand for industrial type
mobile units has spread employ-
ment over the whole year, reduc-
ed materially former off-peak per-
iods during the winter.
"Demand for our industrial un-
its of various types has increased
50 percent in the past ten months,"
General Manager W. C. Smith said
this week. "This demand has play-
ed a major part in enabling us to
carry on through the winter per-
iod." He said at least 25 percent
of the gross employment which the
company provides during the win-
ter, results from demands for in-
dustrial units.
Mr. Smith has just completed a
trip to the west coast, during
which he visited dealers in four
provinces.
"There is no limit to the use
that can be made of mobile indus-
trial units, and more people are
realizing this every day," he said,
and told of a mobile school the
company is designing for a west-
ern community. A branch of a
chartered bank is housed in a mo-
bile unit in the Peace River dist-
rict, while another bank has set',
up shop in a mobile unit to serve
the people beginning to work on
the South Saskatchewan River
dam project.
Industry. across Canada is find-
ing out how effective mobile con-
struction units are in solving their
labor accommodation problems:
From' Chefferville, Nobb Lake,
in far-off Labrador, where Gener-
al units provide city -like accom-
modation for school teachers, to
Elliott Lake in the uranium coun-
try, to the Department of Fisher-
ies at, Ottawa, which uses a Gen-
eral unit as a travelling field in-
spection office, General is bring-
ing a new .conception of mobility
to industry and government,' Mr.
Smith said.
Establishment of the industrial
division at General .got under way
a little over a year ago, and last
summer special efforts were di-
rected at informing industry of the
benefits that mobile units offered.
Parents Attend
"Open House"
(By our Hensall Correspondent)
"Open House" was held at Hen-
sall Public School on Friday after-
noon from 2.30 to 3.30 p.m. at
which time parents'could see their
children at work in the class
rooms.
Any difficulties of the pupils
were discussed by the parents and
teachers. In grade one, Mrs. R.
Elgie had pupils read, and each of
the other grades hada special sub-
ject being taught.
Attractive brochures were prepar-
ed, and recently the company has
stressed the industrial division in
national advertising.
"It's paying off," Mr. Smith
said; "we're getting lots of quer-
ies, and more and more industries
are finding out how we can help
them, particularly in remote
areas." —Huron Expositor

"Why don'Iwe have a clothes line?"
"We don't need one, son. We have an automatic electric
clothes dryer."
With the wonderful convenience of a modern electric
dryer there's no more need to lug heavy loads of wet wash
out to the line. No more watching for "drying days."
In any weather clothes dry indoors, automatically .
fluffy and sweet smelling .. or, with just the rightamount
of dampness for ironing.
Laundry is only one of the many tasks you can do quickly,
easily and economically with electricity. You get more out
of life when you get the most out of electricity.
