February is a good month to give a horse some of the maintenance that it requires from time to time, says the Ont- ario Veterinary College. Frequ- ently, after a winter of idleness or light exercise horses' feet re- quire careful inspection and pro- per trimming. It is also a good time of year to have the teeth looked at and the rough edges taken off. If the horse has not already been treated for "Sots" this is a good time to do it. The bot lar- vae, which have been present in the horse's stomach during the winter become more active as sp- ring approaches and begin their travels through the rest of the di- gestive system. As they become active and begin their migration they frequently are a cause of colic in the horse. Recently the treatments for bots and for the internal parasites of the horse ha- ve been very much improved. Such treatments should be administered only on the recommendation of a veterinarian. One treatment, when properly administered is usually sufficient to control all the com- mon internal parasites of the horse. Mrs. Noel Laporte, who was a patient in South Huron Hospital has returned to her home much improved after undergoing treat- ment.
