Meet on. March 4
The Zurich Women's Institute
will hold their next regular meet-
ing on Tuesday, March 4, in the
Town Hall.
The topic for this meeting will
be, "Citizenship and Education".
Committee to be in charge is Mrs.
Chester Smith, Mrs. Newell Geig-
er,. Mrs. William Forrester, and
Mrs. E. Hey.

Plan Lenten Events
The United Lutheran Church
Women of St. Peter's Lutheran
Church, met Tuesday evening and
the topic "The Ideal Woman Ac-
cording to the Scriptures" was
ably presented by Mrs. Milfred
Schilbe and Mrs. Ernie Laidlaw.
Mission Study Classes will be
held each Wednesday evening be-
ginning at ,8 p.m. during the Lent-
en season, and it was decided that
in the absence of a pastor, the top-
ics of study would be presented
by members, and that a welcome
be extended to anyone interested.
The topic for study on Wednesday,
February 25, "Women of the New
Testament" will be led by Mrs.
Ed. Datars.

SNOW ON THE MOUNTAIN
Place 1 lb, ground steak and. 3
cut-up onions, which have been
browned, into a casserole. Pour 1
can tomato soup over this. Pile
mashed potatoes in centre and put
in oven to brown (about 2/ hour).

RAW POTATO PANCAKES
3 large sized potatoes
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs (separated)
11/2 tablespoons flour with
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Grate potatoes, add beaten egg
yolks, stir in flour, baking powder
and salt, mix well, fold in stiffly
beaten egg whites. Cook by spoon -
fulls in a Heavy skillet in hot fat
or cooking oil.
OATMEAL DATE CAKE
(Mrs. Herb. Mousseau)
1 cup oatmeal, over which pour
1 cup boiling water. Cool. Add:
1/a cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
OBITUARY
O. T. Johnston
Orland Thomas Johnston, son
of the late Mr, and Mrs. Robert
Johnston, Zurich, passed away in
the Royal Victoria Hospital, Mon-
treal, on February 20, 1959, in his
62nd year.
Early in life he worked in the
Bank of Montreal, later for the
Montreal Trust, where he was em-
ployed until his death.
He leaves to mourn his loss two
sisters: Mrs. Matilda MacKinnon,
and Mrs. Albert (Pearl) Kalb-
fleisch, both of Zurich. Also one
niece, Mrs. E. J. Gemming, Roch-
ester, New York; and three neph-
ews, Dr. Archie MacKinnon, Galt;
Hugh MacKinnon, London, and
Ross Johnston, Zurich. Two broth-
ers, William and Wellington, pre-
deceased him several years ago.
Public funeral service was held
on Tuesday, February 24, at the
Westlake funeral home, Zurich,
with interment being made in the
St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, on
the Goshen Line. Rev. E. J. Fish-
er, Brodhagen, officiated.

Bake in loaf pan about 8"x10", irn
oven 350°, for about 35 to 40
minutes.

Crokinole Party
Winners at the crokinole party
held in Varna Hall on Friday night
were: High prize went to, Mrs.
Melvin Elliott and Bruce Keys;
low, Mrs. Ralph Stephenson and
Rev. T. J. Pitt; high prizes for 12
years and under went to Carol
Taylor and Gerald Hayter; low,
Peggy McAsh and Wayne Peck.
• A short program followed the
crokinole in the form of a tele-
vision show with Station JOY -TV
reporting. Mrs. Bruce Keys acted
as Master of Ceremonies. Mrs.
Elmer Hayter gave a very des-
criptive weather forecast; Mrs.
Anson McKinley gave her favour-
ite recipe. News commentator was
Mrs. John Robinson. Also in the
news were live action pictures
demonstrated by Mrs. James Keys,
Mrs. Robert Peck, Mrs. Arnold
Keys, Gerald Hayter, Wayne Peck
and Marilyn Keys.
There was a good attendance
for the type of weather.
