Joanne and Janice, his two daughters, accompanied him to Brantford and spent a few. days wih their aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. John Snyder. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Weiberg and daughter, Waterloo, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weiberg. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Miller, Ro- bert and Janet, spent the week- end at Harbour Beach, Mich., with Mrs. Norah Koessel. Hold Dinner Meeting The Dashwood Men's Club held their regular dinner meeting in the club rooms on January 26, with Mr. Roy Bellanger, Clinton, of the Department of Lands and Forests, as guest speaker. He discussed rabies, fishing and hunt- ing. The men kept hint busy ans- wering questions concerning all three. Jack Bannister and George Dei- ehert, of the Zurich Lions Club were present and spoke on the dr- ive for funds for a new hospital in Toronto for crippled children. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Masse, Gode- rich, were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ducharme and Peter Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Siemon and family, Goderich, visited on Sunday with Mrs. Siemon's par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Duch - Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Tiernan, Mrs. Ann Dean, Mrs. Gravelle, Stratford, called on Mr. and Mrs. Russell Grainger and family on Saturday. Mrs. S. Fitzgerald . Mr. and Mrs. Len Talbot, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Talbot at- tended the funeral in Stratford of the late Mrs. Edward Carl Fitz- gerald. The Fitzgeralds were known a- round Bayfield, having spent the summer at their cottage just south of Bayfield for a good number of years. The funeral was held from the Felffer funeral home, King Street, with six grandchildren as pall- bearers. Mrs. Fitzgerald is survived by her husband, two sons, Arthur, Waterloo; Carl, Toronto and one daughter, Dora (Mrs. Frank Pr- ice), Kitchener, and 10 grand- children. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Masse and children, London, spent the week- end with relatives in this neigh- bourhood. Mr. and Mrs. Morley Fournier and family, London, were week-, end visitors with the latter's par- ents. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Jeffrey and boys, Goderich, spent Sunday with relatives in this community. Gerard Geoffrey, Walkerton, sp- ent the weekend .with his mother and other members of the family. He reported that one day last week in Walkerton the mercury dropped to 26 degrees below zero. Candlennas Day Monday was Candlemas Day, al - Girl Guide News The Zurich Girl Guides held their regular weekly meeting last Thursday evening. They started with the horseshoe formation, The Queen, the Lord's Prayer, and the Guide's Promise. The girls went to their patrol corners, and the seconders took over the meeting, while the pat- rol leaders discussed plans for future meetings. Court of honour was held later in the evening. so the day when the groundhog plays his role in determining the weather for the next 40 days. On Monday all had the eyes on the southern skies to see if the sun would make any appear- ance to scare the little hibernating animal to his den; or whether he would remain in the open. All indications pointed out that the groundhog saw his shadow, at least in these parts where the sun was shining. So there we have the prediction, another six weeks of winter.
