Came Into Being
For little folk, the name Santa
Claus is the most exciting in use
at Christmas. It is an evolution of
the Latin name Sanctus Nicolaus,
or Saint NicholCh
fourth century ristian Bishop
noted for his generosity. The mod-
ern pictorial concept of Santa
Claus is due to the word picture
by Dr. Clement G. Moore who
wrote "A Visit from St. Nicholas"
in 1822. This is the poem
begin-
ning:: `"Twas the night before
Christrhas and all through the
house".
