By 24 Score The Zurich Peewees won their third straight game last Friday night in Hensall, when they upset the Hensall tem by a score of 2-1. The win gives tthe Zurich crew un- disputed possession of first place in the Shamrock League. Barry Black scored the only goal of the first period, when he swoop- ed in on the Hensall net unassis- ted to dent the twine for Zurich. 'The other Zurich goal was scored by Cameron Witmer, with the as- sist going to Phil Regier. Richard Stade, in the Zurich nets, played an outstanding game, as he turned away shot after shot that were labelled for sure goals. The next game for the local Pee- wees is this coming Friday night, when they entertain Ailsa Craig in the Hensall Arena. To date the Ailsa. Craig team is the only other entry in the league to remain un- defeated, so hockey fans are sure of seeing a real battle when these two top teams clash. Lineups: Hensall: goal D. Taylor; defen- ce, Chapman, G. Taylor; forwards, Chipchase, Carlisle, Ellwood; al- ternates, Shirray, Mock, Cameron, 'Walker, Deitz, McBeth, Farquhar, Harburn. Zurich: goal, Stade; defence, Lots of Practice On Home lee For Minor Teams After their doubleheader in Sea - forth on December 6, both the Bantam and Midget hockey teams have been idle. However, with a fine sheet of ice in the local arena now, the boys -have had consider- able time to practise and should be in better condition than they were in that first contest. The next games for both teams are this Thursday night, when they ;journey to Hensall to take on the Hensall Bantams and Midgets. The locals defeated Seaforth Midgets in their first game, while the Hen- sall team was soundly trounced by the same Seaforth team, so the loc- al Midgets are quite confident of taking the Hensall team. The Ban- tams, however, are not quite so confident, as Hensall should be icing a strong Bantam team after the good showing the same gang made in Peewee last year in the tournament at Goderich. Following the games in Hensall on Thursday night the next game is on Monday night when the two teams go to Mitchell for another doubleheader. The first games in Zurich are scheduled for Friday, January 2. Westlake, Reichert; forwards, Wit- mer, Thiel, Regier; alternates, Block, Bannister, Fisher, McAd- ams, C., J. and R. Masse. Highway 21 This being our last article on the roadways in the settlement in the western part of . Hay Township, it is bringing us to the latest 1958 improved Highway 21. It replaced the road first known as the Deer trail leading north and secondly the newly staked road known as the Sauble Line, taking its name from the Sauble river, to the south of us, is today known as the Blue Water Highway, and we believe the one mostly travelled in the province. All the three roads played their role in this settlement since its founding. The first as I said was only a foot trail, nevertheless it was a guide for the early pion- eers who had settled along the lake. They took possession of that trail as if they owned it and as the years went by they took pride itiMtVetcatMieket,941-t er tc-)4MatetoietatataiMs1 Gifts that save Christmas fun for years to come . After squatting along the lake for four or five years they took advantage of the new road and what it had in store for them in the future. Already the Hay Township qoun- cil had opened up roadsto the eastern part of the township as far east as what is known today as Highway No. 4. The opening of concessions in the township gave them access to reach Francistown, which was"the business centre for them. They transported 'themselves by ox drawn vehicles to carry their grain such as buckwheat or spring wheat to have it hammered in a stone mill for flour use. Settlers along the Sauble Line affiliated their ambition with the council to better their standard of living and transportation and by so doing it was not long that communication with Francistown was fairly good and it became the shopping centre of the township. The Sauble Line made good pro- gress from the beginning and as the years passed by it was much travelled by those who shifted from the northern Dart going south or visa versa. Today the Blue Water Highway is attracting the motorist who seeks enjoyment in travelling. 0 HENSALL COMMUNITY SALE PRICES (By our Hensall Correspondent) Weanling pigs, $8.25 to $12.25; chunks, $13.60 to $15.40; feeders, $16 to $17.50; sows, $57.50 to $76.
