TIE VOTE
(Exeter Times -Advocate)
Huron County Judge Frank
Fingland is expected early next
week to, recount Monday's bal-
lots in an effort to break the
deadlock for the sixth seat on
council.
He will be assisted by Return-
ing Officer C. V. Pickard, who
may have to cast the deciding
vote if the check confirms that
Councillor Claude Farrow and
candidate George E. Rether, Jr.
are tied with 462 votes each.

Mr. Pickard Monday night left
the two men deadlocked. It's quite
possible, however, that the DRO's
could have made an error because
it's a big job to record totals for
a slate of eight men, particularly
when there's another ballot besid-
es.
BAD STORM
(Lucknow Sentinel)
A howling storm swept over this
district on Saturday, and by mid-
afternoon visibility was zero. By
nightfall motor traffic had come to
a complete stop on the highways,
and in town there were few either
walking or driving.
Some merchants closed their
shops at six o'clock, and others
switched off the lights early in
the evening with business in some
lines non-existent.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Robb, en -
route home to Lucan from his
father's funeral, found driving
conditions so dangerous that they
finally decided to stay overnight
at Hensel'.
PEANUTS BRING $300
(Clinton News -Record)
The . Kinsmen. Club of Clinton

campaign last week, with a profit
of about $300. This money will be
used to finance the Peewee sports
program which the Kin carry out
winter and summer; to help the
Community Swimming Pool Fund,
and to assist with other Kin pro-
jects conducted throughout the
year.
WILL STILL CAMPAIGN
(Blyth Standard)
Last week a $200,000.00 fire in
London destroyed a large cycle
and sports shop, along with several
apartments, owned by Mr. Rae
J. Watson, of Lucknow, Liberal
Provincial Candidate in the Huron -
Bruce Riding.
In a letter to the Stratford Of-
fice, Mr. Watson stated, this fire
would in no way affect his elec-
tion campaign as he expects to be
back in the district again shortly.
A modern 2 -story building will
be erected and until it is complet-
ed business is being carried on in
a hardware store adjoining the
ruined building.
